My truck went from being garaged when not in use to being parked in the driveway and I'd like to buy a cover for it to protect it. Not a bed cover (got one of those), but a cover for the whole truck. Any suggestions or advice on a good brand or type? Google has overwhelmed me and I don't know anyone who has one to get a recommendation. I live in Central Texas, so lots of heat and sun...and birds.

    Thanks in advance!

I've tried messing with those and they're a PITA. Have to keep them very clean or they scratch the crap out of your paint. Can't take it off and just stow it when it's wet because it will get moldy so you have to have a place to keep the cover clean while it's drying.

My solution was just keep the car waxed and wash it as necessary.

NEVER had a problem with paint fade but there was a cat who decided it liked the hood of my truck. As you would expect, said cat scratched the hood right in front of the steering wheel where you could see it every time you drove it.

All good points, especially letting the cover dry out. I have no idea where I could lay it out for that. My main concern was the paint fading. It's in excellent shape and I'd like to keep it that way as long as possible.

Looking at cat scratches while driving must have been highly frustrating. Ugh.

any and I mean ANY car cover will scratch your paint out in the elements. Better off getting it waxed and ceramic coated properly and perhaps an awning or something? Car covers absolutely will scratch your paint

Thanks everyone for your replies. I appreciate the input and won't be getting a cover for the Taco.

Unfortunately, the HOA won't allow either of those.

I got a cover for my 2013 because of the NM sun. I used it for about a month before I stopped. The NM winds required additional straps and bungees to keep it on. Plus, it’s like putting a fitted sheet on a 7 foot tall mattress.

Recommend you get on the board, and slowly reduce HOA dues (people will like this).....then when the HOA is getting near bankrupt, dissolve it.

HOAs vary but they often have amenities and common areas that, without maintenance, will go to shit. Maintenance requires dues payment. A properly functioning HOA does wonders for the property values of the community and typically provides some pretty nice amenities. You just have to keep the board in check from going too far with covenant enforcement.

Everyone who lives in a HOA was presented with the covenants and bylaws in advance of closing and signs a piece of paper saying they’ve read them at closing. If one lives in an HOA and is pissed off about the restrictions of living in a HOA, one only has oneself to blame.
