I put some after market rims on my 06 5 lug 4cyl taco.Id like to put some longer studs in .How many full turns is considered safe? Is it 8?An what other toyota has studs that are about 1/2 inch longer? Maybe the 4runner, newer 6 lug taco or Tundra?
    Thanks

The stock stud length with oem lugs of m12x1.5 would be 7 full turns till lock. If longer studs are installed you might get 8.

I think 3 full turns is safe

Huh? 3 turns barely even tightens it

About four threads should be OK, but I'd want more. Keep in mind that the nut thread has a lead in so the first turn doesn't really have thread engagement.
The first four threads engaged does about 80% of the hold. Rule of thumb is 1-1.5 length of engagement to thread diameter for steel. So with Ø12mm bolt you want 12mm+ of engagement. Since pitch is 1.5 you are looking at 8+ rotations.

Toyota Tacoma 50 mm Long Extended Wheel Lug Wheel Studs Wheel Bolts m 12 x 1.5 x 50 mm Year 1995-2023 1 Set (Pack of 10)

Will the process be simple as to removal or will the dust shield be in the way

3 full turns is a good way to strip the threads. At a minimum, the thread engagement should be the diameter of the stud.
When I was in quality and rejecting internal threads for the oversized minor diameter, the engineers would allow heli-coils as rework. The engineers allowed heli-coils in steel a minimum of the diameter of the bolt/screw, preferably 1.5 times the diameter. In aluminum, it was at a minimum of two times the diameter of the bolt/screw, preferably 2.5 times the diameter. In my day I caused a lot of rework for this.

Again..I'll assume it's safe to drive on the acorn nuts with end off, it's just a flat small thin piece on outside
I think there are longer ones I may buy later though .

What in the world is happening here... You bought studs so long they punched through the top of the nut!? Is that what Im seeing?

Seems like a terrible idea to me. Those new threads formed in the top of the nut will almost certainly take a great deal of force. IE the same torque applied to this situation will yield a much much lower clamping force from the wheel to the hub. Bad idea.

I actually just located the IDEAL studs off a DodgeJOURNEY.
They are longer than the Tacoma an shorter than the 50mm.
THIS CAN BE HELPFUL TO OTHERS IN THE FUTURE

In pic of 3 the OEM is shortest the Dodge is next(IDEAL) an the 50mm long one is last.
.Original Lugs fit great an you get about 13 turns! Very Solid in the hub too.

What's that back plate used for in BK of the hub where stud goes in?
