Mud Guards attached with M6 rivnuts and wide head socket cap screws

I didnt really plan this one, but while working on the truck today i was fumbling with broken mudguard plastic retainer clips again so i just decided to drill each hole a bit larger with a 3/8 bit and then seated some M6 rivnuts and used some wide head socket head M6 screws and M6 washers.... i doubt these will ever flop around again. (note: the aft facing screw for the fwd guards that insert into the strut tower frame do not come in proximity of the coilovers, there is plenty of clearance)

My dude used stainless hex socket cap bolts.

What rivnut setting tool did you use?

I've done some 3/16" stainless pop rivets with a plain 1-handed rivet gun.. SS is a PITFA and needs a bigger tool.

 

I mean… they’re no harbor freight zip ties but I guess you’ll get a few miles out of em

 

i just use a basic hand squeeze rivnut inserter.

M6 is about the largest you can do with these, but anything over that you need a hydraulic or pneumatic inserter. its a bitch doing SS, but if you take small bites and dial to where you get more leverage and shorter strokes and then repeat a few times until inserted, it'll work. just dont try to take a large stroke with a hand squeeze installer tool unless you are superman

for the mud guards that i just put on, i got them from Amazon, they seem pretty good, we'll see in due time, but i think they are better than the cheap stock guards. they are so inexpensive so even if i have to replace every few years .... good enough
