Hey everyone I'm new to the Tacoma world, and just a few days ago changed my oil. While it runs fine and idles fine when I'm on the highway around 80-85 I'm hearing a slight knocking noise just to the left of me almost like it's coming from the bottom of the door. Doesn't sound like it's coming from the engine but I'm not sure. Now i did manage to drip a little oil on some pulleys below where the filter sits (i know rookie mistake), now i dried and cleaned them off the best i could without taking them off, I've heard that can cause a knocking noise sometimes. It could also be something real dumb like I have a loose storage container door that seems like it could be jumping while im at speed, but not sure.

So just curious if anyone has any experience or idea what it could be any tips would help a lot thanks.

I'd do another check of the engine bay if I were you. I somehow left a box wrench up on the little grille thing in the windshield corner and it would occasionally rattle against the hood. Took me an embarrasing amount of time to track down. I'd start with the simple stuff first.

I’d take her on up to 90 and see if that helps.

Problem is that, at that speed, there's so much wind noise and turbulence that you're going to have a hard time isolating the noise.

At that speed, you will be trying to survive and forget all about the noise.
