Hi yall. I've been looking around for a new taco for a couple weeks and I am shocked by the price tags on these trucks. Double edged sword i'm sure, as they seem to hold their value, but still. Anyway, I'm looking for an offroad focused truck at a decent price.

In my area (SoCal) i'm seeing TRD OR prices around $26k for a decent 2nd gen and around $30k for a 3rd gen. However, I am finding myself drawn to 100K mile plus PROs for only a few thousand more.

What's the groups opinion on higher mileage TRD PROs? I know that most of the components can be bought separately and installed on an OR but the appeal of having those components already ready to go from factory is enticing.

What should I look out for in a higher mileage (100k+) 3rd gen pro?

What truck would you go with? Gen 2 OR, Gen 3 OR, or Gen 3 Pro with higher mileage.

Any advice the group could offer to a first time Tacoma buyer would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

This is a really common question around here and I think we've all weighed them against each other before purchasing. IMO, it really depends on what you want to do after you have the truck and both options are nice as long as they've been taken care of. If you just want a nice vehicle that is good to go out of the box and like to leave them mostly stock, then the Pro is the best version of the truck from Toyota, period. But with that said, if you are like me and like to mod everything to a borderline compulsive degree, then there is no point to getting the Pro since you'll likely change the main upgrades the Pro offers (wheels, suspension, audio, etc) in which case the OR is a better fit as it's the same mechanically. I will say my modded OR will walk a factory Pro all day while riding better (and I like that it doesn't have a useless hood scoop, leather interior or the jbl audio system) but it wasn't cheap, easy or fast to do. It's all individual preferences and there is so much support for these trucks you can do whatever you want with them to tailor them to your liking, or leave them completely stock. In short, you can't go wrong either way.

As a Pro owner, wish I could’ve saved that money instead for the stuff I ended up ripping out of the rig. The TRD pro just comes with Fox suspension and the badge. If you can save more money on an OR, that’s the route I’d go.

These are great trucks super dependable and reliable. But they aren’t bulletproof. The higher the miles on any vehicle including Tacos the higher your chances of failures and repairs. So keep that in mind when deciding on a truck.
