2006 Engine Swap, Input Please

Ok if I end up with a 2006 with a bad engine, will a 4.0 out of 2005 - 2015 be an easy swap? Will I need the computer with the engine? Any DO NOTS with this before I jump in? Thanks in advance.

 

do not buy 05/06 engines
12-15 engines can work but its cheaper and easier to avoid them

 

Any 4.0 out of a 05-11 Tacoma will be a direct swap, 12-15 would require a way the plug the SAIS ports in the cylinder head because 05-11 manifolds/heads don't have SAIS ports.


Always keep the harnesses and electronics original to the truck and swap them to the replacement engine.

 

Much much appreciated. I haven't seen the truck yet, but heard its in decent shape. I am guessing they will want $3K to $5k for it. Not sure what I am willing to put into it till I see it.
