Hi all. See photo. Anyone else have this problem? What causes this? Brought it in, they are replacing the Engine Cooling Fan Shroud.

Not that I have heard, but they do happen.
There is a coolant leak, the fan shroud doesn't seal the cooling system. Most likely the return hose or a radiator leak. I have read folks having a slight leak at the return hose connection,,, might be (hopefully) a quick unobtrusive fix.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Maybe it's the overflow/reserve tank that's leaking ever so slightly. Or the hose connection to the tank.

They don’t need to replace the shroud unless it’s falling apart. It’s just a plastic fan cover and there are no liquids in it. It’s either the radiator, hoses or coolant bottle that is leaking as mentioned before. I’m with CT Yankee- looks like the coolant bottle has been leaking.

Did they do a coolant system pressure test? A pinhole leak when the system is hot and under pressure will help find the leak.

It’s also possible someone spilled some coolant while topping it off. Clean it off and check back later. In any case, the leak is so small that it’s not worth losing sleep over.

I think there is a leak at the reservoir. Only info out there that seemed like a common problem was discharge at the hose end. Figured a clamp could fix that.

I thought the same on the shroud. Maybe the service advisor was mistaken. I'll make sure to mention it.

Not overly concerned, but thought if there is a leak at less the 18k miles that this could reoccur. Figured I'd ask to see if it was a common issue.

They replaced the shroud, showed me a photo of how it connects to the reservoir. Seemed to make sense? Also, they somehow sprayed brake/transmission fluid all over the interior and exterior of the driver side. Yay!

You might send them pics right away incase there’s damage. Is that lower door sill damaged? I’m not saying it was them, but it almost looks dented and semi repaired.

    Those liquids aren't even similar.

Hopefully they cleaned it up. Brake fluid is a paint corrosive.

They attempted to clean it, but did a poor job. Whatever it was, it was pinkish in color.

Appears to be pink oem coolant on the interior. Just wash it with soap really good if it's on the paint.

maybe the shroud and reservoir are one piece ......brake fluid will ruin what it touches

It was oil of some sort. I've been cleaning it.

Unbelievable and outrageous that they left -anything-, never mind some unknown oil or brake fluid on the interior parts or otherwise, and didn't make it spotless before returning it to you. Why were the doors/windows even open for a fan shroud/coolant leak??

I would have made them absolutely miserable over this until they cleaned up the mess and demanded a rental, or better yet: not left the place until it was perfect. YMMV
