Just had the rack and pinion go. I took it to a local shop and asked them to do a full rundown on what needs to be fixed:
-New Rack and Pinion (Toyota part cost $737 from Olathe Toyota)
-Exhaust flanges are leaky
-One side of one strap for the fuel tank is rusted off
Price has been reduced to account for work that needs to be done


Time to part with my Tacoma, I’ll spare you the sob story as I’m probably moving into a full size truck for work/my growing family. I’ve owned Toyota Pickups/Tacomas since I was 16 and for now it’s going to be the end of an era for me.

I’m the second owner of this truck and have worked hard to take care of it as best I could, but it’s mostly been a weekend truck for me since 2019 as I have had a company vehicle. I just took it on a road trip and it drives great. There are some things that need to be done to it for it to be perfect and I’ll list those below, but it starts up every time and drives way better than an 18 year old truck should. Last year I did a ton of work on the truck with the intention of driving it until it dies but with another kid on the way it’s just going to be too cramped in the back seat with two car seats.

Details:
158xxx miles (I purchased it in 2017 with 110K)
Frame replaced in 2014 I believe
4x4 with E-Locker
Remote start
CVJ axels replaced in 2018
3rd gen suspension up front from a lightly used take off, 2018
3rd gen shocks in the back
New entire front brakes, rear drums and shoes, and brakes lines
Oil changed religiously every 5K with Mobil 1 full synthetic and Toyota filters
All other fluids changed at 120K
Leer Cap for a 2nd gen Tacoma (yes it fits correctly)
Cover King Seat Covers since 2018
New splash guards, OEM Toyota bumper, OEM Toyota Tailgate, OEM Toyota Tow hitch
Frame has been fluid filmed and is in great shape (has not been fluid filmed this season)
New tires on steel wheels, Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S with about 6000 miles on them (rotated once)
Rocker panels were welded up last year (see my build thread in my profile if interested, I did a ton of work on this thing)
Inspected for the year

The good:
Mechanically this thing runs great and has been kept stock.
Low mileage
Basically a run of the mill 2006 TRDOR at a great price

The bad:
The flanges of the exhaust are pretty rough BUT I have an entire OEM exhaust system (all 4 cats and pipes like $3000 of stuff) ready to be put on if you want to buy that as well(no codes and its not really that loud) Will sell with truck for $2000
One strap holding the gas tank on rusted through and needs to be replaced
The horn stopped working and I haven’t fixed it
It has rust like a normal 18 year old truck in central NY would have, mostly on the bed, but its respectable in appearance and has lots of life left in it.
