Glad you made it home and everyone survived. I can imagine worrying about the kiddo getting too hot.

Luckily my truck has never left me stranded *knock on wood* im surprised i havent had more problems tbh
Didn't realize helmets were coming with buckles these days. I know the klim fidlock is awesome though. Love it on my f5

I took the harry potter scar off my EXO-XT9000 haha it's just adhesive attached and didn't leave any marks. I love my scorpion, only down side is where the face shield attaches to the hinge can be a little noisy at high speeds. I can put my hand over it and it cuts 90% of the noise so I know it's coming from there. And one side is louder than the other, which is weird.

Did the alternator give you any indication beforehand that it was dying? Mine had one of the 3 diode phases go bad and while it still worked it would hum.

If no, I wonder if it was just the brushes on the back that got stuck somehow to not make contact and thus not able to turn on the rotor field.

Either way not a fun repair to do in the heat on a hot motor. Great job being prepared!

Now that you mention it i did notice a new hum, interesting, bret it was that.

Plan now is to do an accessory drive refresh and do idlers, tensioner, water pump, maybe AC pulley while I'm in there, too. Not sure if the alternator locked up at all and scorched the belt. It looks OK but who knows and it's cheap piece of mind.

Rather than throw tons of money at it, pull the serp belt (buy a new gates / toyota OEM one) - put the old serp belt as a spare in the truck. While the belt is off spin everything by hand, i bet damn near all of it spins free and smooth.

The alternator if it wasnt a bearing probably still spun perfectly free.

If you had posted you needed help, I was mostly free yesterday, you wouldn't have been stranded too long. I've been there, halfway through a 4 hour trip, just got off the ferry, my alternator light came on and I was hours from any car parts store. Not fun whatsoever

Speaking of electronics and charging systems. Those who run all sorts of gear on your moto (extra lights, chargers, GPS, heated hear grips n seats).

Have you guys ever blown out a regulator / rectifier on your bike?

I had my old belt in my spare kit, just in case, I keep those. You have to take one of the idlers off to pull the alternator and while it wasn't rough, it wasn't exactly smooth either. I'm assuming it's the original 200,000 mile one and should just be replaced as cheap insurance. Going in with the assumption it is ALL original, it's not that expensive, to redo everything is under $200.

My wife was already looking up hotels in case we needed to put it in a shop, and had friends from Pullman on standby to come get us if things took a different turn, and I was texting a buddy in Yakima, too. We got lucky, for sure.

Back to other motorcycle news: I wanted a new jacket for my fly and ride next weekend, none of my stuff is super great in warm weather and it'll probably be in the 90s, and settled on a KLIM marrakesh jacket and it is SWEET. I already have the marrakesh pants so figured I'd keep it matchy matchy (different colors though..) Got here last night. Love the material, fits perfect, no overly power range or ADV designs, comes stock with d3o ghost armor and a back protector.

$6700 2016 S1000XR out in Montana. Little over 10,000 miles, adult owned. Only downsides are the rear tire looks about at the end of it's life and no hard bags, but comes with soft bags. Seems to have every option on it, too.

That's gonna be a sweet bike. Had a long chat with someone on the Edmonds ferry a couple weeks ago that had that same bike, and if I lost the ADV bike and went back to pure street, that's probably what I'd get.

Went on a long back road ride on the FZ1 today. Was amazed by how many freaking cars were out this morning driving slow. Passed a bunch of cars today. Hit triple digits a few times and cruised some too. When I parked it in the garage the ODO read 4999 miles. I need to ride it more. lol
The Klx has about 460 miles and the monkey is about 2800 miles.
I think it’s time to sign up for a track day on the FZ1. Need to get comfortable at speed. I did one back in 2019 (before I sold it) on this bike but it was a rain day and only got 2 semi dry sessions so haven’t really been able to push it.

I'm pumped. ADV posture, but twice the HP, sportier, and better suited for touring. Also hell of a deal, if I don't like it I could probably sell it here for $8 large. They're listed in larger markets for 8500-10k.

I think I'm going to get a custom plate for it, too. WSU has an all crimson w/ white text license plate that I think will pop on the white bike (once I remove the BMW vinyl stripes someone put on). I've been toying with getting "BLOGNA" because we call our daughter Sloane-y Balogna and it'll be a nice reminder to not go felony speeds on the bike haha

I like the Shoei, Schuberth doesnt seem as solid as they used to be.

I like the way the chin bar rolls back on the I100, when I am trying to make time, most gas stops I leave the helmet and jacket on. Gas up, take a leak, slug a water down and hit the road, maybe 3 or 4 minutes max. Cant tell you how many times in the past I have banged the chin bar on the top of the door frame when walking into the convenience store. No problem with I100.

Mostly, I just keep commuting to work on my bike every day the weather allows. I've really noticed a falling off on the number of people at work on bikes. Seems like they are more and more just a weekend toy than an every day ride.

I was pleased to see another Indian in the lot this week. Pretty sure it's the first Indian I've seen at work that didn't belong to me.

No extra lights but electric jacket liner, pants liner and gloves. On the KLR I had to use the euro headlight switch where I can cut the lights off, I cant run the the gear on high and lights at the same time or I go negative. If I keep the control set to about mid setting, or leave the pants liners off, I can run lights. If it's really cold and I need the pants and run on high, I have to turn the lights off. The old control I had was a simple resistor, so had to turn the lights off regardless, newer one controls by pulsing power, so less power means less draw.

Never had a problem with the BMW or the Goldwing before it.

Was in the Kawa dealer a couple days ago picking up some parts, he said bike sales are falling big time.
