My 2008, with 400,000 miles died last week. So, last night I brought home my 2024 TRD off road and I love it. I have the upgraded trailer brake controller and tow package. Where are the transmission & oil cooler located? I can't seem to find it. My 2008 was a small transmission cooler in front of the radiator so it was easy to locate. Any help would be great. I can't find anything online to help. Thanks.

Those ended sometime during the 3g run IIRC

So you may not have external units

I was thinking about that, but the tow package on Toyotas website lists the 2024 as having a transmission & oil cooler. Did they go back to integrating them with the radiator?

they’ve had the transmission cooler in the radiator for a long time, they just also used to have the separate one too. They stopped with the additional one on the late 3rd gen’s

oil cooler has always been a liquid cooler I believe, coolant flows to it

Thanks. It's been 16 years with 1 truck, so a lot has changed. Lol. Appreciate the help.

The oil cooler is what the oil filter screws into so look there and you’ll see it. The trans cooler is in the radiator and I believe there is another one under the truck that also uses coolant to cool the trans

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Yep, can confirm that my February 2020 OR still had a cooler. Based on 3g posts, those that came later in the year no longer had them.

There's a whole thread on adding OEM and aftermarket coolers. If you don't tow, I doubt you'll see a noticeable difference with one though. I don't tow and up hills of NY I've seen pan temps in 190s and converter temps in 220s (momentarily on downshifts).

If trans heat concerns you, there is a transmission temp gauge (along with water and engine oil) on your dash that you can monitor. Nice feature on the 24's.

If it’s like a later 3rd gen Taco like mine, the trans cooler is water-to-oil without the air-to-oil cooler. However, the trans cooler still has a thermostat and a fancier heat exchanger than the typical trans fluid coolers which just run through a small passage of the radiator.

The gauge bar will also flash red before the trans temps go full AZ-5 meltdown
