Hey dudes, I’ve used this site quite a bit in the last few years but have only read existing posts pertaining to whatever I’ve been working on.. figured i should finally make an account and post about this ongoing battle with my 30-40le transmission.. I’ve seen a few others struggling with the torque converter after replacing a transmission, most commonly not torquing the converter bolts correctly(i think that’s my rookie mistake) i recently lost gears on an especially inclined drive and could use some recommendations on rebuild kits and aftermarket torque converters.. maybe a rebuild manual if a PDF is available to download? Any help is appreciated.. she’s my daily driver so I’m trying to rebuild at my brothers shop ASAP

It's less Tacoma and more mod
You may not have seated the torque converter fully in the pump. I do have the manual for the A340(E/F) "30-40LE" at home somewhere though. I'll find it for ya

UPDATE*-Thanks i appreciate any help.. I’ve read a LOT of the almighty @gearcruncher posts pertaining to it, and the fact is i risked buying a used 300$ transmission that supposedly only has 15k miles on it as a reman. The seller seemed friendly and trust worthy, not seeming to have a reason to rip me off from fb marketplace here in Boise. But after about 1k miles i found the rattling noise or torque converter shutter coming from my bell housing. As i drove the noise worsened, inconsistent as to speed or rpm. The drive home she died on felt like my throttle was just causing clanking and i was unable to limp home, but could get up to about 20mph in 4wd(might’ve been the same for 2wd). I regret running her so hard going up the hills in the cascades, but what’s done is done. I serviced the trans after install, and my brother in law bolted up the torque converter.(i dont think we torqued the bolts.. period..) but he’s a damn good diesel mechanic who’s turned wrenches his whole life, and i figured he could go off feel or more likely he didnt know about the big rookie mistake on this specific transmission that I’ve read so much about. Anyways I’ve been able to borrow a car the last few weeks but need to get going on it soon.. much love guys ill keep you posted!
