Okay, next obstacle. I got to the head bolts and some are stuck, locked in. I started with the right side, was going through the removal sequence, and at least 4 barely moved, just clicked like they wanted to, but didn’t. I used a 24” breaker bar and the triple square bit, but 2 started to strip the bolt. Not completely, but the bit won’t go in without tapping it in. The two in the front started moving, but I torqued them back to 27ftlbs and backed away for some brainstorming.

I noticed there was sediment in the bolt heads keeping the bit from going all the way in. Which is strange, because I always change the oil regularly with good oil. Cleaned it out, Tried a couple more, but still stuck.

I’m thinking the head of the bolt and washers are stuck to the head surface.

open for suggestions, my thoughts are any combination of the following.

Get a better quality Tripplesquare bit. I bought a Duralast set from A.Z. It’s the longer hex shaft type. Maybe get one with a lower profile and more rigid?

Not sure if it’s okay to tap around the head of the bolts to break the corrosion loose, and tap on the center of the bolt.

Use an impact gun in short bursts. Not sure if it’s okay to use an impact.

For the 2 that are borderline stripped, use an extractor bit before they become rounded. I’ve seen some that are short and stubby that might just fit in the hole.

Once again, thanks in advance for the assistance.

It's not the end of the world if it strips, you just plug the oil gallery's and drill out the headbolt, once exposed its easy to get out.

That said hammering the socket into the head of the headbolt as hard as you can and evenly use a strong arm with perfect 90 degree turning angle.

If you can, have someone bash the end of the strong arm into the headbolt while keeping pressure on the headbolt loosening.

I actually read that before making this post. It just gave me a headache. I’m wondering why it says Tripplesquare everywhere, but secretly is Double Hex? Why the big secret? And why is the Double hex so hard to find?

If they are still tough, is it possible to bump them with an impact. Or would that not be wise. What is a good penetrant lube these days, still Liguid Wrench?
