I have a 1996 SRV Xtra Cab and I found a shell that fits and will be picking it up in the next couple days. I’ve never done an install and I’m wondering about the logistics of picking it up and installing. Should I get a U-Haul and pick it up, then have a local shop install it, or is it as simple as just throwing it on and clamping it down? If so, how many people do you need, what tools will I need, etc?

If I should have it installed at a shop, does anyone have any recommendations? Any advice would be appreciated.

Another set of hands and a strong back will help, but yes, essentially, put it up on the rails and clamp it down to get you home. You can then tweek the position and connect your lights at your leisure.
I've used "C" clamps temporarily and they alone worked well for a long time.

Pick up some gasket tape for the interface to keep things more dry inside.

    Something like this.....
