I have a 2006 with 320k on it. It needs some major components replaced and a few repairs. I'm hoping to get some feedback on whether it is worth keeping it. I kept it well maintained up to 250k then let my son drive it for four years. It still runs great. Would doing fluid refills and sprucing it up be worth it if it had some years of neglect? How expensive is getting the interior redone? It's pretty rough. Considering selling it in the case it's not with fixing up but the 2006 seems to be a diamond in the rough. Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

Generally speaking, if you live in an area where rust isn't a problem it is cheaper to keep an older vehicle in good condition than to replace it.

However - the above depends on how much of the work you can do for yourself and also what your expectations are for the vehicle -- if your 320K truck is intended for second vehicle service used around town for truck stuff vs being your primary ride.

Again doing work for yourself, you might find nicer interior parts for a refresh at your local pick & pull wrecking yard for an easy to afford price.

My 07 has 249,000 miles. I plan to keep it till I die and leave it to one of the grandkids. It is still my daily driver for local trips and most anything within about 100 miles of home. But at that age and miles it is no longer my primary vehicle. We did a 7000 mile 3 week road trip earlier this summer with our small TT. The Tacoma easily pulls it on for closer trips, but I wasn't going to try that road trip with my old Tacoma. I used my newer F150 with 1/2 the miles.

As far as redoing one the paint and body work is a lot more expensive than replacing engines and transmissions. If the seats are in rough shape, it'll be cheaper to find decent seats from a scrapyard than it is to have the ones in it recovered. At least it is where I live.

If you decide to keep it it's worth checking the typical places like this site, CL and Facebook Marketplace for parts, I scored some nice used seat covers on here, it kinda transformed the inside appearance of the truck. If nothing else it will likely help the resale value if it doesn't look beat inside.

Let some kid work on it every weekend.

How does the frame look? Also my understanding is that on the 2005/2006 models the engine mount perches had a tendency to crack so I'd take a close look at those.

Overall an 18 yr old truck with 320k is no spring chicken. Definitely getting to the point where repairs will become common. If that's something you're ok with then keep it, if you're worried about getting stranded I'd get a newer vehicle with less miles.

If you don't need the truck.
Buy seat covers, wash it, sell it.

Fix her up and ride her to 400k. Milfs are always better. Even if you put 3k into it and get another 5 years, that’s only $50 a month. Sounds a lot better then several hundred a month for a new one
