What up everyone, so been hearing some rattling since I got the taco and couldn't figure out from where it was coming from. I initially thought it was the back seat belts, but no. This happened every time I went over a bump. Then I thought it was the seat until I figured out it was the headrest I removed it and it stopped. Anyone else having this problem? I'll look into it more after work but as of now I'm only guessing I have to look @ the plastic things that hold the headrest in place.

    That's a new one...

Just fyi the headrest plastic bushings are about 4" long and are "duck billed" they are a HUGE PAIN to remove, you can try pulling them from out side the seat but you're probably just going to destroy them.

The way you're supposed to remove it is by removing the seat back then sliding your arm up the back of the set and pinching the duck bill closed while pushing them out. I recommend wearing cut gloves as all the stamped steel and janky welds will cheese grater your hands. You can imagine how I learned all this.

If your rattle is with the plastic tabs then yes, if it's internal to your headrest itself then no, but replacing the head rest is much easier than replacing the tabs.

To answer your question on how, I destroyed one tab pulling it out, learned how it was designed to come out from the pieces, removed the second tab destroying my hand in the process, bought two new tabs from the dealer, covered the oustide of the tabs with thin crushed velvet replacing the stock felt dampener pads on them.

A quick fix may be to find out where you like your head rest set and put a wrap of electrical tape on the rest legs so that when it's jammed in place the tape is engaged in the socket creating a snug fit. Just use good 3M electrical tap that wont peel off or leave a mess from the heat of being inside the cab. Alternatively use teflon pipe tape.

Good looking out I'll try that I might be able to deal with outside squeaking and small rattles but this here is like surround sound over my JBL system.

I had the same damn problem. My passenger front seat headrest was a maraca. I took the headrest out and 'spread the legs' a bit and then put it all back together. So far it's been quiet for about 6 months.

My headrest rattles too. It annoyed me before I figured out what it was. Sometimes when I turn a corner sharp I can feel the headrest shift a little bit in the back of my seat. For a while I thought I had not installed the seat correctly after taking it out. Now that I know it's just a headrest, I turn the stereo up to 11 and just keep cruising :)

My head rest rattle-taps if I bump my head against it - I fixed it just by removing the headrest, replacing, then extending and retracting the headrest a few times.

This that and the other thing.
This is what I did, cheap easy and it worked lol

its a little awkward but worth it lol under the seat you can unclip the seat cover and pull it back enough to see up into the seat from behind. when u look up u can see the pink plastic things, they were worn out causing my rattle. Its kind of hard to describe how I pulled it off, I don't have pics of how I did it but I will do my best to explain lol

so the sleeve that the leg of the arm rest has to be lifted up and help in place. I used visegrips to hold them but having a helper would make it easier. as its in the UP position you can get the zip tie on. do both sides. one thing I thought of after was that I may have been able to leave the head rest in, use it to lift up everything and put a 2x4 under to hold it. anyways, sorry for crappy explanation haha good luck

So I spread the legs out a little and I can officially say I'm rattle free! I'm sure u can comprehend the joy I'm going through. Now I kinda want to drive over bumps instead of avoiding them. Good looking out!

Great information Key; I really appreciate it. I've been thinking about getting these seat covers for my 2012 Access Cab and I'd have to remove the headrest. If it's that much of a pain I'll probably just skip that part.

Aloha and good morning my TW Ohana,

Think I found an Easy fix …

as I’ve been wrenching away for months restoring my Taco … I’d take breaks, and of course surf TW. And one thing that’s driven me crazy over the years Rambling my Taco… that dam Rattle (I was convinced it was the whole seat lol). Found this thread and some various Fix it solutions, and as I wrenched away, had this in the back of my mind.. and quite suddenly the Light bulb came on (now this is of course for any and all that Don’t want to dig into their seat and replace them Duck Bill grommets)… and it took me all of 120 seconds to install. Plus the time of course driving to your favorite local hardware store .. but seriously that easy, and 100% no more Rattle (da bugger no move)

    Hope this helps out someone

    much luv n Aloha

note- on my set up, you’ll see “Black” over them chrome headrest legs, and that’s something I did just for my own personal cosmetics (garden tubing cut to size)
