That's a horrible idea. What time?
I think the problem is that the collection port isn't high enough. It's trying capture dust through a narrow port at the top of the door leaving a gap of about 2.5". I'm going to use it again today and may try to clamp the vac hose to the top of the existing port. Just not sure the door will stay closed.

Rethinking the hickory for the table outdoor side table. I'm reading that it doesn't hold up very well. It might be time for a cutting board. I'll see what the local shop has for off cuts today.

Warping / twisting was one. I also read that it is susceptible to rot and should not be kept in the sun. Here that just wouldn't work. It might when we get the new house built as I think it will make a front porch side table.

At the risk of sounding like an entitled prick, (too late) The stupidly overpriced mobile base for my sawstop is on backorder and the saw is just going to sit in my garage unassembled until the end of the month. Sad days over here my friends.

Went to the local hardwood shop today and spent $55. Walked out with mahogany, sapeli, and white oak.
    20240808_165902.jpg

Used the white oak to replace the hickory on the side table project. (No pic of what I picked up.) Milled it down to the Hickory dimensions and rounded over the edges. Also made two cross members to keep it squared.
    20240808_151136.jpg 20240808_162759.jpg

Laid it out next to the metal legs / sides. This is the underside, but you get the idea.
    20240808_164630.jpg

What the top should look like.
    20240808_164704.jpg

After cleaning up I played with the cutting board idea. Hickory and mahogany, and maybe some thin white oak/ mahogany "inlays". Not.sold on that idea yet, but the mahogany looks good with the hickory, and I have some cutoffs from dad's shop that are close to the dimensions I need. Rough idea, will definitely change.

Short day at work due to a now resolved AC issue at home. While the house cooled off, I went to the garage and turned on the fan.

Got the oak sanded on a bench sander and then with an orbital.
    20240810_155441.jpg

And because I was a little aggressive with the bench sander, back to the router. Dust pick up set up works well and stores in the cabinet.
    20240810_155432.jpg 20240810_155537.jpg

Two heavy coats of Varathane finishing wax. Should.be good with the white oak, but I still won't leave it in the sun all.day.
    20240810_161922.jpg 20240810_174526.jpg

And then solved a good problem to have. Shortened a few belts.

Well I have 37 crosses cut out for the church. All need to be sanded now and a coat of blo.
    20240809_194141.jpg
I've been handing out some of the crosses to people I work with. One of the ladies I gave a cross to said her son asked if I could make a small cross for a necklace .I said I've never made one but I'll give it a try. She said she would pay me. I said no, the boys faith is payment enough.
I still have to put an eyelet on it and a coat of blo.
    The wood is Mesquite.

    I had to YouTube it.

I'm a diabetic and my doc had me on Mounjaro until we couldn't get it due to supply shortages. The appetite suppressant works, and with some food changes (choices and amounts) I'm down 16 pounds in 90 days. Can't get Mounjaro for a while, supply issues, so working on maintaining the new good habits.

A few things I want to change, like shorter bolts, but it's done.

I missed a few pics, but I used a paddle bit to counter sink the carriage bolt and a mallet to drive them into place after drilling holes. 2.5 inch landscape screws to mount the bottom cross brace.

The former owners left a bad table. For about $50, I have one we'll take with us when we move.
