I meant famous amongst the Toyota fan base and famous enough to interview Toyota engineers and get invited to Hawaii for 4th gen’s debut

I really love AMD respect him a lot for his knowledge and quality workmanship, but I do find that he contradicts himself quite often, like all YouTube I think you have to think for yourself and make your own observations

As damning as his video was, he even missed some things to complain about. The parts and pieces that seem to be falling off, the floppy glove box, the lack of storage in the halo models (where are you supposed to store a first aid kit and a battery jumper?) In all, his video was kind and gentle when you take into account some of the things people have brought up in this forum (and others). I have to say the gimmicks are over the top and not in a good way. That bluetooth speaker is going to be obsolete real quick. Its going to get lost, or broken and then you will have a giant unsightly hole in the dash. He didnt even check for the windshield seal wrinkle that everyone keeps complaining about.

Does anyone know if that bluetooth speaker beeps if its not in the car? I doubt there is a way to make it scream like a cellphone if you lose it. I wonder if they are also covered by warranty.

Dude the windshield seal wrinkle was a problem with the 3rd gen too. People criticize to much. Overall the truck is beefed up more than any tacoma before it. It’s the first new Tacoma in 20 years give Toyota some time to work the kinks out .

He makes a lot of really dumb, subjective critiques. I had to turn it off when he started whining about the appearance of the driveshaft.

That said, I have a mile long list of complaints about my 2024 TRD Sport.

Not a single complaint about our new AT4X.

Yeah and on top of that wasn’t that truck a preproduction model so it wasn’t even fair critique

Definitely pisses me off. Toyotas have never had fancy, luxury-like interior but holy hell, these new ones are cheap on top of cheap. Flimsy and squeaky plastic every where, and not just Tacomas. The only well built Toyota you can still buy new off the lot is the 5th gen 4Runner. I've been in most Toyotas in their current line up (car rentals) from Corolla to Tundras (2nd gen, too since some of them are still in rental fleets but probably not for much longer) and everything is just cheap cheap cheaaapp and shit. I was in a 2nd gen V8 Tundra then immediately got into a 3rd gen to compare the interiors. The 2nd gen was closer to the 4Runner. All the interior plastics felt rock solid with little to no flex or creaking. The 3rd gen? Felt like a damn Explorer. And I've been in an SR5 and base TRD OR 4th gen. More of the same, shitty thin plastic crap. At least the hvac dials felt okayish I guess? It probably only feels beefy because they're 3x the size of every other car knobs on the market. I know it's just the first model year and there are kinks to be worked out, but at the same time, I kinda hope these new trucks bites Toyota in the ass and Taco sales plummet. If not because of the build quality then at least for the outrageous price hikes compared to the 3rd gen.

No interior was cheaper then the 3rd gen with rattles and squeaks galore, not to mention suspension squeaks and creaks and the pathetic poorly made cheap front cab mount bushings

Ok, what's with that gigantic glob of plumber's putty on the sway bar disconnect? That can't be the legitimate install of this. It looks like the kind of work I'd do, and I'm an idiot.

I find it hard to believe the fender flares have a glossy finish. The first time you take the truck off-road they will be scratched to hell. At least the matte finished ones don’t show the scratches as much.

And that putty on the sway bar is ridiculous ^^^

Take the Pro that AMD reviewed (or any random trim of Gen4 off a dealer lot), and transport it to final inspection in Tahara. They would first probably cry, then send it to the crusher.

A ‘23 Tacoma was a cheap to buy, relative to a ‘24. But at big-boy prices, gotta offer us more than good looks, big screen, donut spares & bad shocks.

it wasnt meant as news, more further funny on the build quality or lack therein.
Plus Toyota should have a fix not an after market development company.

ya know product testing and all...

I disagree with this vehemently. Toyota took a long, long time to re-design the new Tacoma and Tundra and they knew that these models would be a huge deal to loyalists who had been beating the drum for updates for years. Knowing this, if Toyota really practiced what they have said for decades, Yokoten and Kaizen, these trucks would have came to market without any of these problems leaving only things to improve on in design, not build. Especially for the premium price they command. My feeling is that the most recent management changes at the top are not following these practices as closely as the previous did and it is showing up in the end product.
