I have seen... on the internet.... there are people who "distill" pump gasoline to make "white gas" the process is simple, but takes heat and temperature control.

The "additives " to pump gasoline are not needed for open air combustion.

 

Stove should not flood/burn yellow that long, if flooded does take a bit to burn off. Did you run a frayed wire or some brush into the Bunsen, looking isn’t enough or even blowing air threw. Leaving the start lever in the up position for a minute?
The genny tube needs more harsher methods. Most likely best to heat up red hot for a bit with a torch to burn off carbon, especially if auto gas was used and you used this for so many years. May be less frustrating to buy a new genny from Oldcolemanparts. The seat area on the valve stem tip would only not work properly if there was a groove close to the tip where it seats inside the valve, symptom would be leaking fuel or pressure. Sounds like you understand all this.

I have a model 1 Coleman and their first three burner, a 418 along with a few other models.

 

The unit I have is only a two burner, but the fuel tank does not appear as a recent model.

 

Most of my collection are single burners, many Swedish brass stoves, around 16 100+ years old.
Hopefully can get the issue figured out.

Can you post a pic of the stove and the tank? I’m not sure if changes to stoves the last 40 years or so differ for older stoves from maybe the 70’s back. I know Coleman used orings on some lanterns and replaced graphite packing with orings on some stove valve stems to keep costs down.

Might see if Oldcolemanparts has a genny tip, a member on the Colemancollectorsforum mentioned the tip might be worn from carbon and the pricker wire enlarging the orifice. I know some tips are available for some generators.

I have a Coleman from the late 50s that still works great and one from probably early 70s in the original box which has never been opened. Between the soot and screwing with fuel, I rarely use it. Propane is simpler. If I do have to use the Coleman, I burn grain alcohol in it. Not as hot, but no soot.

 

Shouldn’t have any soot, flooded, wrong fuel?
I see many propane lanterns and stoves when I stay in a campground, easy to use.
