Ordered the Alpine ILX507 kit from Trailgrid Pro. I looked at the install video and it looks like the head unit has a wired mic. The installer in the video mounts it to the steering wheel column. I think it looks bad there im trying to get a completely stock look.

Any suggestions on a mic install location that's more discreet?

I have the same head unit, I put the mic in the A-pillar, safely out of the way.

    Thanks for the reply.

How do you like the stereo? By chance, do you have a fire stick or use the HDMI port?

not exactly safely out of the way though. that is exactly the panel that blows inwards when the side curtain airbag deploys. depending on your wire routing, it could easily become an additional projectile in an accident.

i routed mine to just above the rear view mirror, and kept the wire to the glass-side of the a-pillar to avoid airbag deployment issues.

The head unit has been great so far, haven’t hooked up a firestick yet.

If my airbags deploys, the last thing I’ll be worried about is that tiny microphone.

I'm looking at this model as well. Does CarPlay work in light and dark mode if set to Automatic? I have a Sony in my truck right now that is locked to dark mode no matter what I try.

I have Android and it works in both light and dark mode on the head unit.
