Isn’t a WRX STI?! A golf R is still a golf and a m3 is still a 3 series. STI is less different from the wrx than those two. Also that 2.5 engine is a dog.

Not in the generation I'm talking about. The name tag is, but in the 2014-20??? gen the WRX had a new 2.0 engine and the STI was still using the older 2.5.

Numerous posts over the years of overhead console noise, pillar speaker covers rattling, window seals rattling, etc

Yep, I tried to love it… but power came on at 3000 and cut out at 6000rpm, tiny power band, head gaskets blow at 70-90k miles, and it gets 15mpg with barely 300hp. It was just a very overrated experience imo.

Never had issues in 2 of mine and the 3 I test drove before committing. Maybe it’s an early issue ?

I mean sure and a GT500 is still a Mustang, a Tacoma Pro is still a Tacoma, ZL1 is just a Corvette and the list goes on.

Still not sure which one you are talking about. If it's the FA20 they had, the power was on before 3K. If yours did that it may have had problems, especially if you were getting shit mileage on it. I was consistently over 30 MPG and frequently over 35 MPG in my 2017 WRX.

2018 sti not wrx, I actually almost bought a wrx I preferred the 2.0 to the ancient 2.5. Power band was better, +30% mpg, 10k cheaper for essentially the same car. Only thing that sucked was the noise. I love the way the 2.5 sounds

Ah, that makes sense. I specifically went WRX for the 2.0. It was just as quick as the STI with none of the drawbacks.

Nah. It's perfect. New people will come in and see exactly how threads go on here. Then they are prepared and don't complain when their threads are derailed.

Watch some reviews on the Supra. Hard to get into, small seats, it preforms well in the segment.

For my money, I would probably search elsewhere.

Oh, it's something I'll never be able to afford, but a guy can fantasize

The GTI I had was a little difficulty to get into. Although, I was 30lbs heavier then. :anonymous:

Here's what I found to be fascinating. 86: has handbrake. Supra: has push-button parking brake. No point to that, I just found it funny.

I'm weird in thinking that if I'm going to be dropping big money on a car, I invariably am biased towards a Euro make.

The supra is nice, but it doesn't scream "I just dropped 60k on this." Similarly, I just spotted an LC-convertible 500 this week in a deep red color. It was a pretty car. But was it 120k pretty? No. It looks like an Avalon with a Lexus badge. Nothing about it screams six figures.

If we're throwing that kind of money towards a midlife play car, I'd take a 718 Boxster over either of those. If my budget were sub 50k? I'll look at a muscle car with a vee-eight motoor. And if I'm in the mood for a sub 30k play car, that's when I look at the little Toyotas and Mazdas.

2016-2019 Jag F Type R. 550 HP. Gorgeous. Euro. Fantastic. $120K+ new. $43-48k. One of the best values in sports cars today. Goes like snot. Sold my 21 Supra at the height of the pandemic (was offered more than I paid new); and this was the replacement. Among the best sports cars I've ever owned.

I do like the wheels on the Supra better. The Jag wheels remind me of C7 corvette. Nice car for sure though.

This thing actually looks pretty dope. High ground clearance, very low CG, super short wheel base, good approach/departure angles.. if they beefed up the driveshaft & diff and converted it to 4WD with a LO transfer case it'd be pretty fun off-road..

Not so good for overlanding or camping..
