Hey yall, I cross posted this on Reddit but wanted to ask you folks on here as well. The title pretty much sums it up, had my 2016 Limited stolen and not sure what to do with the keys. Do I just keep them? Let me know any suggestions. Thanks!

If it was a newer Tacoma with remote-keyless, I would keep them and have them re-programmed to new vehicle because of the price of the key itself.

Wait till you see your truck pop up at a insurance auction, then sell the keys to the auction for $100 each.

Welcome to TW! Sorry about your stolen truck, but since you don't have a tacoma anymore, you will need to update your avatar to 2016 Tacoma Limited 4x4 Keys!! :anonymous:

If insurance pays out on the loss, they belong to the insurance company for when the truck is recovered. If the truck is recovered before payout, you need the keys.

Keep your keys and drive around and if you see a Tacoma that looks like yours push the button and if starts then call the cops. Just a suggestion.

Bad idea. Starts a confrontation that could end with you being shot. Police prefer to handle the confrontation on your behalf ... your wife/husband also prefers police.

Bad idea, cause he might call the cops on you for stealing his truck until you can prove it is yours.

Not advocating for it, but this seems like the ideal outcome. The perpetrator calls the cops for you, you easily prove that the vehicle is yours, you get your truck back and the car thief gets a ride in the back of a cop car.

The more plausible scenario is that you get run over, stabbed, or a gun pulled on you.

I'd just put them in electronics recycling or trash metal recycling. I've got too much junk kept and have no idea what they are or were used for.

It is the worst way to resolve it. The person with the truck might not be the one who stole it. It might have passed through legal/semi-legal channels and then the current "owner" is at worst "willing to ignore the circumstances", possibly is an innocent victim in a scam. The police will take ALL PARTIES into custody and use THEIR resources to prove who is the real owner, not your paper-title.

AND you may STILL be arrested and considered a criminal for starting the confrontation.

"Batman" is a vigilante who does not have to answer to rules of evidence, so would often be prosecuted often for his tactics.

This one is easy. When you get a settlement check from your insurance company, hand them the keys. Until they settle, you still legally own the truck.

Put them on Craigslist with a photo of your truck, every thief goes and sells car parts on there and somewhere someone needs the matching key to their “new” truck.

Running the VIN would clear that up in 90 seconds through dispatch.
