By my rain gauge, just shy of 12 inches over 3 days :rain:

That's here on the west side of South Mountain (part of the Blue Ridge), which squeezes out some extra rain when the clouds pile up on its flanks.
Versus your location way over the Valley in the rain shadow of Tuscarora.

Mrs Gritto just got back from a trip to Quebec City with her old friend and college roommate.
The old gals got in a whole lot of walking
She was very happy to sleep in her own bed as well.

    Story Time with Gritto

    Big Sky Country

The first time I went West was in the early Summer of '73.
I went with a buddy, hitchhiking and riding the rails.
The first part was all hitchhiking.
From eastern Ohio, no more mountains.

Mind you, most of Pennsylvania is mountainous, though with much fertile land in the valleys.
The Appalachians are very worn down and not very high compared to out West.
But what's left is the hard old bones of the mountains, and indescribably rugged.
One can only appreciate how rugged by hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Anyway, the terrain got flatter and flatter from Ohio to Illinois.
People say Kansas is flat... Illinois really is.
But one's horizons are bounded by shelter belts, towns and whatnot.

Then we got dropped off at an interchange in eastern Iowa.
It lay on a low eminence and offered a fine view for many miles of the rolling prairie.
    What did we see?
No, not cornfields, not at that spot.
Ethanol subsidies lay far into the future.
The Soviet Union was buying all the wheat they could get just then.

What we saw were wheat fields, as far as the eye could see.
The wheat was ripening to gold.
You could see the wind rippling the grain.
It looked for all the world like a golden ocean, with wave after wave tossing in the wind.
You could see the successive waves from miles out, coming towards you.
It made a hissing sound not unlike the seashore.
And yeah, it's pretty windy on the Great Plains.

That was the moment when the meaning of the phrase Big Sky Country was brought home to me.
To that time, I'd never seen anything like it.
The feeling of vast distance was very impressive.

When I was a kid and lived in Oklahoma - we would drive thru hundreds of acres of wheat OTW to school each day
The way they ripple in the wind is really pretty
You could also locate the coyotes because they would run thru the wheat fields and disrupt the rippling - if you were paying attention, it was pretty easy to spot

The sky was HUGE out there and you could see for miles and miles and miles
Here the sky is tiny - pinned in by tons of pine trees [mostly] - but those pine trees and others give me plenty o privacy so

The wheat fields are pretty cool until they burn off the stubble and you gotta choke on the stink for a couple of weeks.

For the record Evan Williams is pretty darn cheap. Not worth much even "aged". It's a mixing whiskey if anything, even just bought.

    Just my unprofessional alcoholic opinion...

Fill the water bottles. Eat food. Rest. Go fishing if we have enough energy. Read if we don't. Rest some more. Eat again. Dream of my landscaping plans and woodworking plans till I can back to it.
