Classic car show in FoCo this morning. Not sure how many were actually classics, I went to high school with a lot of these...
Just a few that really caught my eye.

PSA in case you missed it last week - lane filtering is now legal for motorcycles in Colorado. Be extra cautious when riding around the sons of anarchy, most don’t know how to ride defensively. Extra consideration/caution with the post-Sturgis motorcycle rally moving through right now.

Double PSA: Lane filtering means that motos may travel at a speed of up to 15mph between lanes when (and only when) traffic in the adjacent lanes traveling in the same direction as the moto is at a complete stop.

But be on the lookout for motos doing 100mph between the lanes on I25 anyway.

Realized I have been wearing the wrong helmet for a class 3 e-bike, ordered another.
107 miles on it now, no problems at all. The weekend rain prompted me to design and print a front and rear mud flap of sorts, kind of a sporty, stealthy thing. Buying them for universal fit appears to be a waste of time. The only company that made a really nice set is SKS in Germany, for the Kinder's. Meaning it's built for a kids bike and won't cover my tires. Really didn't like the idea of full size fenders anyway.
1st prototype, to see how it fits.

Minimalist coverage (prolly won't stop shit) but looks really bad ass.

And after going thru all this, I designed another with a sweet curve in it, as well as made it longer than my machine will allow, to get better tire coverage. It just takes 5 hours to print.
I'm an hour and 37 minutes into it, should be done by bedtime. Doing the rear first, then will redo the front.

SKS makes fenders for "adult" bikes too. Their full-coverage fenders are very good. You've got "fat bike" tires, so it looks like they'd tell you to use these: https://sks-us.com/products/fatboard-fender-set-fits-5-0-tires Doesn't look like they'd do a very good job of keeping your legs or feet dry though.

Your buddy Mr Bezos will sell you some "fat bike fenders" if you change your mind about wanting full coverage. Full coverage fenders aren't warranted often around here, but on those rare occasions they can really change your day. They're especially nice in the spring when your tires kick up spray and grime from melting snow--they keep both you and your bike clean.

For a fun little diversion, look up Honjo Fenders. The lore is that some guy in Japan had a factory that made fancy rain gutters, but decided that bikes should have really, really, ridiculously good fenders so he started making special-order batches for other folks to sell. They're silly expensive and a pain to install but when you get everything right they're the nicest, prettiest fenders you can have on your bike.

Sim Works is the best place to find them in the US: https://www.sim.works/collections/simworks-by-honjo
Analog Cycles sells some too: https://analogcycles.com/products/honjo-metal-fenders
Velo Orange makes some less fancy (but still very nice) fenders in the same style: https://velo-orange.com/collections/fenders

Neither Honjo or Velo Orange makes fenders for a 4" tire, though.

I saw the SKS Fatboard's, they won't quite work with the over size down tube and battery. Although an extra piece of Velcro would prolly solve that.
This is the alternative I'll go to in the rear if the printed thing doesn't work out. Although, I think mine might be pretty close to the same in general appearance, just not sure about the total length
    https://www.amazon.com/Axiom-Rearru...5&sprefix=fat+bike+rear+fende,aps,275&sr=8-10
No interest in full coverage fenders.
This is what I'm trying to mimic on the front. Mine attach with one bolt in an existing hole and don't move. The prototypes fit well, but I'm making another set that is 30mm longer in the rear, and has a curve to match the tire. The downtube is fat enough it covers the wheel/me when straight anyway, so this is just to match the rear and maybe keep a little water out of my face.

    Not really.

Regular "lane filtering" is different than what Colorado now has.

As of August 7, 2024, lane filtering is legal in the State of Colorado. Lane filtering is the act of a rider passing a vehicle in the same lane but only when that vehicle and any traffic in adjacent lanes are at a complete stop. This maneuver will likely be most common at stop lights or gridlocked traffic and will legally allow riders to navigate toward the front of the line, avoiding being sandwiched between two vehicles.

Lane filtering in several other states allow the rider to SAFELY occupy the same lane as another vehicle while overtaking them with some phrasing like "at a reasonable speed". They do not restrict all traffic to be at a stop and allow the motorcycle to just go through as they decide.
They also do not allow motorcyclists to go 95mph between cars that are going 25mph because of congestion.

So it’s not really legal, but it’s legal? Got it. Had multiple bikes this weekend not filtering correctly, just wanted to give others heads up for when bikes split lanes and drive 50mph up to the stop light.

I was excited to see the headline as well, but when I read the actual law details, it’s not really anything great. I bet I’ll still get some super angry guy in a full-size pissed off that I “cheated” him and ruined his life by going to the front of the line at a red light, didn’t slow him down one bit and was long gone when the light turned green.

I was only attempting to summarize Colorado's rules, but now you've got me curious.

What are the "several other states" you're referring to?

According to https://www.twistedroad.com/blog/posts/lane-splitting-lane-filtering-legal, there are five states (including Colorado) with "lane filtering" laws and four of those states (Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Utah) explicitly say that surrounding traffic must be stopped. The fifth state (Montana) says that surrounding traffic must not be moving faster than 10mph.

What you're describing--passing another vehicle in motion at a rider's discretion--sounds to me like "lane splitting", which is only allowed in California.

And now I’m questioning what I was told back when I got my second bike after ~7 years off… I guess my memories may have been influenced by seeing other riders breaking the law.

This is where I went to bed, about halfway done.

This is what I woke up to, after cleaning it up. After the last marathon print job, I need to give the machine a little attention. It still did ok for fenders though. Total length is 284mm, maximum size the machine can do is 250mm. I tilted it to get the extra. I can prolly squeeze out another 20mm, but it's not worth a 6 hour print when Bezo's can deliver next day.

another 100mm and it would have been about right for length.
I'll go out this afternoon when it rains and see how much of a skunk stripe I get.

Maybe a two piece print that bolts together? That way you can get some angle to follow curvature of the tire?
