What’s going on guys. I’ve got a 2011 access cab 4.0 4x4 AT making a weird popping noise under load. It was for a time only happening while trying to downshift around 40mph or so, paired with low RPMs (when you get stuck in too high of a gear), but now when I punch the gas, its happening at a wider range of speeds. Fairly sure it’s coming from rear portion of truck. My first thought is the slip yoke, but it almost sounds like an exhaust backfire and it can occur in a quick succession of pops at times. Any initial thoughts?

Any CEL's? If it's popping then my first thought is MAF sensor cleaning or fouled o2 sensors. You'll want to get it figured out soon or your catalytic converters could be in jeopardy.

No CEL. Cleaned my MAF a couple weeks ago. I’ll try and get a video this afternoon on the way home.

Not sure what year but perhaps mid exhaust pipe to cats there is a dual spring-loaded junction with a semi-hard donut. Internal muffler rusted out. Bed bolts in rear. Front radiator bushings (body mounts). Tensioner assembly worn out. Many driveline parts. Ball joints. Sway bar bushings or end links. Noise type and location are often hard to pin down. Good hunting!

    OME and worth every penny.
was it poping before cleaning the MAF? I'm always suspect of that thing when popping occurs if it's actually the engine and not loading of suspension.

Finally got it to occur again. It seems to occur once the truck is warm (driving for more than 5 minutes or so), and it isn’t really tied to a specific gear. I originally thought it may be a torque converter issue but that seems to be a 4th to 5th issue.

Can hear it best at about 13–14 seconds. Almost sounds like 3 pops like a loose driveshaft u joint or something, but those are all new and it occurred before I changed them also.

    Thoughts?
