I almost never floor my truck. I’m pretty diligent about progressively applying throttle and do downshift to avoid any lugging of the engine. I’ve had this truck from 60k to 80k now and just noticed pinging when I was below or at 1500 with heavy throttle. Possibly the first time I let that happen.

Will this always happen or are there manuals (specifically Tacomas but other, too) out there that you can floor at any rpm and the timing just deals with it? I’m more curious than anything. But will probably try some premium for the heck of it.

V6? I have nothing productive to add, I'm just curious.

There's a TSB PCM update to remedy that, do note however that if you plan on a supercharger in the future the update renders the PCM ineligible to receive the supercharger tune.

If you do a N/A tune at least with HPTuners you get the TSB tune by default. I have a tune on mine and it doesn't ping at all at any RPM/Load, it would do it sometimes prior. I tried to get my dealer to do the TSB but they couldn't duplicate it so they wouldn't do the update.

I can now reverse the Cal ID using other tools/software. Just FYI.

Ah that's nice, I wasn't aware of that. Good to know.

I was kinda wondering if you could do EEPROM trickery on Toyota ECMs to like say put a manual transmission calibration in an automatic ECM and such, not sure if that's possible or not but would be cool if it was.
We are starting to see more and more guys doing EEPROM stuff on the domestic side to clone modules and trick vehicles into accepting used modules since alot of stuff anymore unfortunately won't allow you to program a used module to a different vehicle and new ones are often discontinued or on intergalactic backorder.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I’m somewhat interested in the HPTuners tune. I’ll have this truck for a while and at some point I’m sure it won’t be bearable. What are my first steps to go that route? VCM suite and one of the MPVIs?
