I have looked at the suspension threads for hours but just get more confused the more I read. I have called shops all over town but just more frustrated. They say that there are very few 3" lift kits for 2wd Tacomas that will work other than spacers and blocks. I am looking to get new tires and would like to a go a bit larger so I need to get suspension figured out ahead of time. Currently the truck drives harshly and I feel every divot in the road as I believe the weight of front bumper has killed my current shocks. I would like to add 3 to 3.5" in height and preferably bolt on myself. Looking for a kit that would not only level the truck at a higher height but also compensate for the heavier front bumper to restore ride comfort and travel. Budget is up to about $1500. Is this a pipe dream? Thanks!

Vehicle information - 2006 Prerunner (2wd) with TRD offroad front shocks and double hoop ARB bumper (no winch).

I used OME 885 coils /bottom setting on 5100s on my 4wd, and that was very nice with the ARB, and still acceptable when I added the (synthetic line) winch. The 4WD weighs more, due to the Tcase etcetera, but I also only got about an inch and a half of lift. Subtracting that weight on your 2WD might give you what you are looking for.

3" to 3.5" is pushing it if you want something closer to normal wear-rates / service life from your CV joints up front.

Max suggested lift for tacos is about 2" to 2.5" max. Yes, the extra 1/2 to 1" makes a big difference due to the motion-ratio of the front IFS magnifying that increase to a larger-than-expected amount at the CV angles.

There was a thread about a month ago talking about a lift on a pre-runner, apparently you can use spindles:
