Driver side speakers are real faint on access cab, Balance control is at center, right side volume is fine. I can turn balance control all the way left and tweeter and bottom speaker sound very faint when volume is medium or full. The unit is stock , no nav.

Im going to pull drivers side door panel and check wire connectors and also use spare speaker to verify it’s not just the speaker. Anyone with similar problem?

I upgraded the speakers 3 yrs ago and they have always worked good. Until yesterday.

    :(

I just replaced mine to get a backup camera. What a PITA. I hope it’s just a bad speaker or connection. Could be only the tweeter making contact on that side.

I can send you the removal instructions if you need to pull the head unit.

Thanks so much, I would appreciate that. I have already looked at a few videos in anticipation of replacing the unit and just bought a cheap 4” speaker to check if it’s only a blown speaker. One day it worked fine , next day this problem. I’m just starting the mythological testing at this point. I even called crutchfield and they confirmed my testing.

Thanks Scott, I will keep that in mind once I figure out what’s wrong. I also think that this is writing on the wall as far as upgrading to a better unit.

Upgrading is never a bad idea! LOL

I put an Alpine unit in several years ago. It sounds great, but hooking up the steering wheels controls was bit of a pain.

I didn’t have trouble connecting stuff, but dang, getting the radio in with all the connectors and wires was a real PITA! :bananadead:

Thanks so much, let’s hold off for now until I check my wire connections, that will tell me if I need to replace the unit. I will definitely get in touch if I have to replace.

Thanks , I do too! My eyes are bloodshot from looking at all the after market choices at Crutchfield and 4K Tacoma World post on head units.

I have heard that if you mismatch the Ohm rating on the speakers to the headunit you can overtax the amp and kill it. I am not terribly knowledgable there though.

Neither was I when I installed them. Who knows , I’m hoping it’s just a dead speaker in the left side and that is causing it to work but real faint. My 4” test speaker should prove that theory

SOLVED! I got my little 4” test speaker to rule out a blown speaker and when I went to remove the spade connector from the 10” lead that came with my aftermarket speakers it broke off in my hand. Stripped the wire coating and touched it to the little speaker and all is fine. Installed a new spade , put it on original speaker, good to go. I think I will just buy a set of those 10” leads and I will be ready for the other side to fail. They looked weathered and brittle. Cheaply made.

Yea, I even researched crutchfield and had my cart filled with a new alpine head unit and all the rest of the stuff you need, I was ready to pull the trigger today if my theory didn’t work.
