Loved it off for wheeling. Absolutely hated it for doing stuff like Northwoods Maine at 70mph. Actually made me sllwer

I mean it's fun at times. But it still hasn't been faster. Haha. Would make sense for a trail rig. But I always speed. I only wheel maybe 8-12 weekends a year.

X2. The tensioner on the gen 2 was a PITA, I just left the tensioner arm and replaced the pulley. I believe you had to remove the compressor to get the arm itself off and risk breaking the hard lines. I opted to just replace the pulley.

    Yeah.
I did the same on my Gen 2, lol. I bought a tensioner and intended to, but it wasn't broken so just did the belt and pulleys to avoid taking triple the time for a fresh belt. I still have that tensioner somewhere . . . but no Gen 2 to use it on. It might work on my wife's 4Runner if I need it, though.

I'll be talking with a guy about a tune on my 2019 SR5 in the near future. I know zero about tunes, so I'd appreciate any thoughts on what questions I should be asking and what I should be looking for.

If you plan to upgrade your battery to an AGM--needs to increase voltage for charging. Tune does help with shifting and gas mileage. Pedal does become touchy.

If you want, I'll have my 5100s with me coils coming off this Sunday, if you want to send those off.

Very kind of you to offer. I'm hoping next week I'll be able to rip them down and rebuild them on the bench. Although after further cleaning and inspection I don't know if I got a stick or a wheel into the passenger side reservoir, but it looks like that's getting replaced. Deformed under the sticker with what looks to be a rip in the sheet tube, but hasn't lost pressure. Yet. Not pushing my luck on that one.

Still cheaper than a new set of shocks, although this will put me close to those. Hahaha

I’d make a list of what you hope to accomplish with a custom tune and have an open conversation with the tuner about what can/can’t be accomplished. I’ve never tuned a Tacoma so I don’t know a lot about what’s available to a tuner to tweak, but I went down the rabbit hole with my F150. In reality, don’t expect more power out of a tune for a naturally aspirated vehicle unless you’re also making other big modifications or doing E85 or 93 specific tunes. Mostly, a tune will get rid of the drive by wire lag and tighten up the shifting. Seat of the pants, it will feel more powerful, but all you did is eliminate or reduce the nanny BS, the truck will still be putting out the same power as it was pre-tune. Personally, I wanted the tune for the improved transmission mapping, specifically for towing. It gear hunted too much with the stock mapping and the tune made it lock the torque converter and use the engine’s power rather than drop 3 gears and scream every time it lost a little speed going uphill.

Anybody know of some low mileage 3rd gen take off shocks and coils or great deal on 5100s? Neighbor has a split coil on his 2nd gen and needs suspension.

Good for a few more years. From 2017-2024 wasn't a bad run.

Pulling mine this weekend. 5100s with aftermarket coils, and rear 5100s.
Will likely have a set of leafs with AALs as well
