Thanks for being part of this Community

Just join this community after having bought a 2008 Tacoma Access cab TRD Off Road. Lets say it had no maintenance history so to have a baseline, did a good tune up, changed spark plugs (original were in at 180,000 kms) Oil change, replace engine and cabin filters., Also install Apple carplay console with back up camera, great addition! Now have to replace fan control chip as it is defective, got the part from Amazon after reading on this site , Will also be replacing serpentine belt as it looks it is probably the original one. No squealing noise from any pulley yet. Complete front break job also done.

I read gates pulleys for replacement #1 Idler - 36174
Idler #2 - 36173, If needed will only replace Tensioner pulley at the assembly is quiet a job to do, not sure after reading a post if the pulley for the tensioner is also a Gates 36174???
Will have to read more on this one.

Don't forget ALL the other fluids, since you have no history. Brake, trans, diff(s) coolant

Smart man to do a baseline!

    Welcome

    Welcome aboard.

Negative on the 36174 pulley for the tensioner. It will fit but due to the center offset, you lose too much thread engagement. It is better to replace the bearing in the pulley - 5203-2NS, 5203-2NSL, 5203-2RS (size 17X40X17.5). Or, Febest pulley/bearing # 0187-GRJ200 (China parts).

Consider an ATF flush and diff/transfer case fluid change.

Welcome to TW. You’re doing it right, replacing/changing the things you should. Clean the MAF, people often overlook that. Also at a little over 100000 miles is when the water pump often starts to go. Carefully inspect make sure no weeping or seeping. Check your shocks, may be the originals. If the are originals they are shot.
Check your spare tire, make sure there’s air in it. And has already been said replace the fluids.
    Post some pics.

    Welcome to TW.

If you are replacing the blower motor resistor, I would recommend that you go OEM. I too went cheap and bought the Amazon one.
    It only lasted 4 months.

Installed the OEM one from Toyota with the new different pigtail and it works so far, 8 months and counting.

But most importantly. PICS! show us your new wheels!

Don't forget the transmission fluid. Mine had 104k on it when I got it. After weighing all of the input here, I decided to do a flush and fill on mine at 120k based on an early (good) service history of the truck and some signs on the drain and fill-plug that it had been done before. It has been fine sense. (now at 134,00k but I may do the drain-and change the next time.) Coolant is also very important and it gets old and acidic over time. I would do that next.

I have a baseline now for everything and going forward, will follow the manual.

Do the diffs and xfer-case next if its a 4x4.

Mine all showed evidence that they had been opened before and I did them last spring @124k. The plugs had 115,000 on them. (Denso) The truck ran fine before and after I changed them, but it gets a little better gas mileage now.

Keep us posted, and Welcome to TacomaWorld.
