I’m looking to put 285/75r17 on my 3rd gen. The wheels I have are 17x9 with -12 offset. Will the 285/75s rub because of that offset? Currently they have 265/70 and don’t run at all.

Going to need more info to really confirm. Assuming your stock all around besides the wheels and only 1 size over stock. Yes you will rub and rub alot.
A fair bit goes into getting these to fit.

Yes they will rub but cab mount chop helps as well as viper cut

Then yep if you just have the lift you will rub. Your offset will help as it's on the mild side but I barely cleared 285/70r17's on a +1 offset and a custom alignment. Worked with both spc and dirt king uca's. Now on 295/70r17 -38 needed a cmc and pinchweld fold. Just a trim and tuck on thr fender liner up front but I do rub the front a bit under turning and compression. Currently adopting the self clearancing option to resolve that.
285/75's will likely be my next tire size. And I'm confident my current set up will clear. Just note if you do not trim your flares on hard compressions tall tires on a negetive offset will try to eat them.

I have noticed that during interstate driving (70-80 mph), my truck wants to stay in 4th and runs around 3k - 3.2k rpm. This is with the OTT tune as well. I tried playing around with the ECT power button and manually shifting into 5, but the computer puts it back into 4th pretty much immediately. Any concern with running at those rpm’s longterm, or should I look into regearing?

That's just where the torque is and at those speeds it is what is on stock gearing. Not likely to damage anything as I'm regularly cruising in that rpm range due to hills or head winds with 200k on the truck now.

Hey guys, sorry if they question and answer has already been asked/answered. I’m running 5100’s, JBA uca and I have the front fender mud flaps. #1 do I have to take off the mud flaps or can they be trimmed? Do I have to do the cmc? I don’t flex my truck out on a regular basis more into hunting/fishing/backroads/some trails to get me where I’m going. I’ll do the cmc if I have to but by eye it looks like it might fit in there (285/75/17). Any additional information greatly appreciated. Keeper on all 4 boys (currently running 285/70)

What wheel offset? With how my 285/70 on a +1 fit I'm going to say yes to cmc and no mud flaps. Also just want to point out that k02's run small so your going to appear to have more clearance than you would with a more true to size tire.

I believe those are a +4 which should be fine may be getting a little tight on frame clearance at full lock. Maybe someone else can chime in on that aspect.

+4 offset? No problem clearing the UCAs?

You get any rubbing at full lock or when the suspensions compresses? I haven’t purchased anything myself I’m inquiring, probably gonna go with the falkens 285/75/17, always appreciate the additional info and the truck looks wicked by the way

Looks awesome! Do you have stock UCA’s? I have the same wheels and I’m wondering about UCA clearance. Can’t find a definitive answer in this thread.

New member, but spent two years on this thread. Finally able to comment. Appreciate the help on this thread, nice to have actual helpful information. Toyo open country rt’s, UCA’s, diff drop, cmc, fox 2.5’s with a 2.5” lift, new fender liners, needle bearing replaced, wheels are a -12 offset.

This thread convinced me. Nitto RGs went on the long boy today. I am very pleased, they fill the wheel well nicely and I measured over an inch of extra ground clearance at the lower control arms over my worn out 265/70's. I can actually notice the height sliding my ass into the seat.

Had to do a modest CMC and massage the front inner fender liner (heat gun, remove bottom most screw and tap a new one further up, and pushed the whole thing forward a couple inches). I have tons of room around the tire, but cut it VERY close to the UCA at full lock. Should not be any issues, but I'll find out in a couple weeks when I head out camping and hit Niagara rim trail and stuff the Nitto's.

For those looking for specs: 285/75/R17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers, AGP SEMA style wheels (17x8.5 +4mm offset), stock UCAs, Bilstein 6112's @ 1.5" of lift (probably less with steel bumper and winch), 5160's in the back and Icon RXT leaf pack on lowest setting (1.5-2" of lift).

Don’t think you meant me, but now that I got them mounted, no rubbing with 4Runner pro wheel offset, but super close to the stock UCA. See images above.
