The center display going from bright to dim was aggravating me. I can't see it very well when it goes dim. I found a video on how to put the display in day mode. This stops the dimming of the display in low light conditions. I noticed it dimming again and checked the day mode. The day mode keeps turning itself off. Any ideas how to make it stay in day mode permanently?

    Thanks

Unplug the photo sensor, upper dash under the speaker grille (little bulby guy) adjust brightness, profit.

*disclaimer, this will also affect the auto headlight feature ie it wont work on auto anymore you'll have to actually turn them on, which you can leave them in the on position and they will turn on and off themselves from the timer but it wont flip them on in auto when it trips in dark areas (which also flips your screen on/off)

There could he a different way to tackle, I modified my headlights so this works for me

Thanks. Seems to me if you can change the setting it should stay there . Hate to unplug anything when it may be that I'm just not doing something right.

It’s sort of overkill just for this, but there’s settings accessible through techstream or Carista that allow you to change the sensitivity settings. I’m buying and canceling a membership to Carista to program tpms after rotating in my spare and can send pics of the options soon if you’re interested in this route

Out of curiosity, do you have that many overcast/rainy days that this has become an issue?

Personally this is fairly rare but also annoying issue for me.

Also, are you sure you want daylight mode enabled at night?

Double also, keep in mind that you have daylight running lights (DRLs). Welp, maybe the SR doesn’t have those? Not sure but I think Canada mandates them.

I removed those annoying stickers on the sun visor.
That's one of the reasons I unplugged the photo sensor. Bridges, tunnels, underground parking... the headlights would always turn themselves on, and suddenly I couldn't see my screen.

Note that this will completely disable the automatic headlights. The "auto" position on your headlight switch will act like "off".

I live in the mountains of NC so yeah I do. But it can be a bright sunny day and if you go under trees lining the road and the display is dimming and back to bright, dimming and back to bright. Or especially late afternoon. The thing practically strobes...an exaggeration! It's just something that I find annoying. And Toyota built in a setting that allows it to stay in day mode but I can't get it to stay in the day mode. It reverts the day mode setting back to off on its own. If it annoys me enough I can just turn the display off if nobody has a soultion.

You might try unhooking the Negative battery cable for one minute and see if the setting holds. Sometimes like computers or phones you have to reboot it to see if that makes it happy.

I’m confused by this as my 2020 does not switch back and forth automatically. Rather it dims when I turn the headlights on. If it’s a overcast/rainey day, this can be annoying. The solution is to go into the settings and manually turn on daylight mode.

My 2023 does it on its own even if the lights aren't on. While driving. The first time I noticed it I thought there was a short in the display and it was flickering off and on. I do leave the lights in the DRL position on the headlight stalk. That's when I discovered the day mode setting. All was fine until yesterday when I noticed it dimming again. So I checked the setting and day mode was off.

This works on my 2014, but it's difficult/quirky to find and do, even with the manual. Mine change to the night-mode setting when I turn on the headlights; but the problem is: when you have the night screen brightness set really dim like I do, the screen becomes un-readable during the day, and are required (by State Law) to turn on your headlights whenever the wipers are on. Not very well thought out. I don't know why the screen brightness isn't controlled by the wheel on the
panel next to the cluster to adjust brightness like the rest of the lights in the truck..

I think I had to wait until dark to find (see) the setting choices on the screen to get out night mode and adjust/turn up the brightness. Lesson learned: Don't turn the night-mode screen brightness almost all the way down like I did. A couple of taps is all you need.

You should be able to adjust the sensitivity of the sensor via the Nav screen if you have that.
