Hey guys, one of the AC cluster bulbs in my 2010 Tacoma went out recently. There are two of these bulbs. They are Toyota Part Number 84999-10090 and carry an MSRP of $15.72. That's before shipping. As far as I can tell, the choices were to spend around $40 to replace two bulbs with original toyota parts, or go with some off-brand bulbs of unknown quality.

Neither option is very good. I took some measurements. The bulbs used in my truck are standard T1-1/4 Neo-wedge bulbs that draw 125mA at 14v. After some looking, I found another option. JKL components makes a similar bulb. Their part number is DNW1-DW33/GRA. These are, as far as I can tell, identical except for the color of the plastic base (grey, not brown) and fit perfectly. The molding of the base is similar enough that JKL components may be an OEM supplier to Toyota.

Best part is, they sell for $1.46 each in quantity one on digikey.com. Go to digikey and search for "DNW1-DW33-GRA". If you're ok waiting a few days, USPS ground shipping is $4.99. I got two bulbs of excellent quality for less than $8.

Maybe it wasn't worth the time tracking all this down, but still feels like a win.

FWIW, I have this part number in my reference for these bulbs. It's my understanding that when the bulbs changed in color from orange to white, (2012 refresh?) they were now also LED. That could explain the cost difference. You're also essentialy getting a lifetime bulb. Pretty sure I read this somewhere... I'll poke around and confirm if I can. If that is not the case, I'll update remove this post.

I cannot speak to the 2nd-gen pre-refresh orange bulbs as to incandescent/LED. One bulb they didn't change to LED was the AT bulb in the center console. It's a tiny bulb has several variants that will work on misc parts store shelves. Don't pick the brightest ones. I got the next lowest and it's bright enough, but not enough in the peripheral vision, to notice it when you're just driving and watching the road.

Williston, thanks for your insights. In my 2010 Tacoma, these bulbs are incandescent, as is the Toyota 84999-10090 replacement part (judging by various distributor photos). The color ends up being orange once the light passes through the instrument panel. Looks like the JKL part may only apply to 2nd gen pre-2012. Thanks for clarifying the 2012 refresh, and checking out the incandescent/LED question.

All good info in your posts. Thank you. No luck searching for an LED reference for these climate panel bulbs, so I'm probably confusing it with another application. The other part number I have is: 9001009017 and it's an incandescent bulb as well.

Be careful removing that control unit and treat it gently. I came across it in the searching, and it is huge money to replace.
