What do you think? I had a very small tear in the Boot and I fixed it just after it happened. Probably means this boot will tear in another place so this is not a long-term solution. I have backup axles but kind of want to see if these will last before replacing

going to guess not long as they are dissimilar rubbers and the cement to hold the patch may not adhere properly. this is my guess...but we shall see!

I bet the boot will tear elsewhere before that patch comes off. That's assuming you properly cleaned and prepared the boot surface prior to application of the patch.

The same shit everyone else has.
FWIW, I put black RTV on a pin hole on a boot and it survived over a year

Depends on how much you drive. Park it and it will last for years.

That's not a bad experiment to try. It will definitely buy you a certain amount of time.

If the patch blows or it tears elsewhere, it does mean that you're keeping a lot of shit out of the joint in the mean time and it should make cleaning it up and re-booting it a heck of a lot easier when you get around to swapping the axle.

If that's an OEM CV axle it's definitely worth re-booting if it's still decent inside, and swapping out as a core for a CVJ unit - https://www.cvjreman.com/product-tag/9808/ - if it is not.

    I rebooted mine
only thing I regret is not doing the boot slide mod (didn't know about it at the time)
or instead of dealer boot kit, ordering better articulation boots. I think they're red and available separate from CVJ

I see on the CVJ website it says for the boots they use you need a 1” diameter more clearance for it. I have just replaced my wheel bearing and the axle boot has given out.(these are not factory cv axles not worth fixing they already pop when I turn) so I’m wondering since I have TRQ lower ball joint which are oem spec how could I figure out if I have the clearance? Also if anyone knows another reason why my front in pops when I turn and back up PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

Update. I have been driving the truck almost every day and doing some off-roading. It's been a couple weeks and the patches have lasted. I actually had a tear on both sides and patched both and they're both still holding. However over the weekend I went and did some rock crawling and formed a new small tear on one of the boots. I patched it and kept going

Which patch kit did you use that is flat like that, all the ones I see/use have like that rod of flexible sticky stuff you jam in the hole on your tire

Update. I ended up patching a total of four holes. One of the patches is still holding strong but three of them are starting to peel off. I think this is a good short term solution.
Today I installed new axles from CVJ on both sides.

In my experience sometime those hanky traipsing repaired can last much longer than anticipated ... preventative maintaines is always the best way especially if you have the parts ...I'd say leave it on ...till you have all your parts to rebuild your front axles..seals..ecgs bearing ..balls joints all that shit is a rabbit hole shit box exploding man trap ... you see ...lol..have fun with it.

Shout out to this thread, it came up in a regional chat and I wanted to bounce it up to anyone who missed it originally. Informative and well illustrated field repair experiment. GG OP. If you also have a bike you have the stuff in your truck to do this onsite.
