Hello everyone, I live in north east and i've been thinking to move out for quite a while now.

My employer just opened fresh new location in GTX, and If I were to transfer, I would get a promotion and also some coverage rental wise in first months.

I wanted to ask, how is Texas in general and how is Georgetown? I spent 2 weeks there while training new stuff at work place. Everything seemed smooth, but since i was staying in hotel, i can't really judge. I went around a lot, visited lots of restaurants but not so much residential areas.

    Thanks

Beware of the heat bud, I'm from here and tolerate it just fine but most folks who are outdoorsy and from up north refuse to go outside. Can't blame em', they'd probably die.

Georgetown is getting way too big and with only one highway to get to major employers (I35). 35 is perpetually jacked up - I dread going northbound toward GT.

I'd check out Liberty Hill(hwy 183 getting expanded out there and nice gun range) and east of Buda (Creedmoor area) for a more Rural type of living. May consider Between Bastrop and Austin as well if you can afford a commute. I see that stretch of the city blowing up BIGtime with manufacturing/tech(+property values)

It all depends on what you want. Georgetown has some very nice parts. Even some of the older houses are nice. My wife didn't want to move there in large part because her sister lives there. Long story, and I won't bore you with it.

If you have kids, you'll want to look into the school system. Our kids are grown, so we didn't care about that and landed in Hutto.

All of the metro Austin area is getting crowded because the job market is pretty good.

We moved from MA last year and there was some adjustment. Texas does a lot of things differently. Not better or worse, but differently.

It does get hot here and it takes time to get used to it, but your body will adjust over time.

We traveled here off and on for a number of years before we made the move. Even at that, one thing that surprised us and surprised just about everyone is how much of Texas there is. Travel is measured in time, not miles.

The structure of much of government is different as well. I'm still figuring out some of the tax stuff. No income tax, but property taxes can be high. Plus school systems are independent of city government and set their own tax rate.

You'll want to learn about Independent School Districts (ISD), Emergency Service Districts (ESD), Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ESJ) and all sorts of other things unique to Texas.

If you like car shows, you'll love it here. There is one just about every weekend, especially in the warmer weather.
