I have a cap on my bed and the solution I'm looking for is a 'jumper' harness that will delete the wire for the 3rd brake light and the the cargo lights on the truck cab where it plugs in under the dash. I would like to be able to easily re-connect the original plug and retain factory functionality should I decide to remove the cap for some reason in the future. I would think the jumper really doesn't need to be longer than 6 inches. Easily doable?

Connectors for 3rd gen doible cab third brake light are not available. We tried. MESO made his own male for his series of replacements.

On my ‘02 Tundra it’s possible as well as my ‘05 Tacoma. The easiest way is to float the ground wire so cargo and brake are still active but neither lights up. Then, if pinned all the way to a Deutsch flange, you could loopback the ground with a waterproof cap when the shell is removed. That will extend the circuit by a fair bit so large gauge wire would be most appropriate. That’s my general plan for the ‘02 Tundra at least.

tldr, I approve the thinking but not possible to do on the third gen Tacoma without modifying. You can cut the ground and crimp on bullet connectors. But that’s not really worth the trouble.
