What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

I gotcha. I feel like I could probly do the jump seats myself. Id just want someone to do the fronts so they are nice and tight

 

Ditched the hi-lift jack and made a simple skid for a cheap harbor freg floor jack. Gonna put some quick fists on the sides to hold the jack handles just like Overland Under Budget did

 

1.5 ton jack for the Tacoma? Seems unsafe to me imo.

 

It’s just for changing flats or trail fixes. And you’re only lifting one corner of the truck at a time for trial repairs. A Tacoma weighs roughly 4,000 lbs and even jacking up “half” the truck would only be 2,000 lbs in theory

 

I have that exact jack, but with wheels. Never thought of doing what you did. That’s a cool idea! I’m gonna give it a try.
Edit: As for being able to lift the truck, I’ve had mine for a couple of years. Never had an issue lifting mine.

 

Definitely worth it! Look up Overland Under Budget jack, he gets all the credit and has a video of how he did it!

Jacks just go into bypass if you overload them, nothing unsafe about it

 

Some quick maintenance today while I was waiting on parts.

- Wiper blade refills
- Cleaned cabin filter
- Vacuum interior from last weeks trip to the Dog Sniff Spot. (two boys in the back 110# and 65#) leave alot of hair... My Boys:
Was waiting on plugs, but didnt notice the mail person put them in the mail box even though she brought another package to the door. So this weekend will be plugs, Maf and Throttle body and maybe front adnd rear diff oil change...

Installed some LED interior bulbs and 'restored' my headlights. They're much better but they're a bit uneven and I could've done a better job sanding. It was my second attempt, think I'll just buy some new ones eventually.

 

Your theory has the vehicle empty. My Tacoma weighs ~5500 lbs with all the gear we carry; topper, RTT, camping gear, etc., etc.

Ever had your truck on the scales? Weigh the axles independently. The front will weight much more than the back, when the bed is empty. Could well be the opposite depending on what you have in the bed. And this does not begin to take into account modifications, like bumpers, winches, roof racks, topper, etc., etc.

But, it could be that your truck is bare bones and you never, ever have anything in your truck.

 

Oof, time for a bigger truck. Doubling the payload seems like a horrible idea to me.

 

This doesn't directly translate to how the weight transfers through the suspension. Yes, if you were trying to lift the entire vehicle from the CoG it would overload but the jack shown above would not have an issue lifting a corner of your rig for a tire change. This jack wouldn't even reach the frame rail or cross-member on its own either so that would kind of be its main purpose.

 

I understand for your vehicle you’ll need a different application like a 3 ton jack, but this is why I got it for MY truck. I’ve only got a Ripcord DIY wedge camper (275 lbs.), sliders, front skid and some basic recovery gear so I’d say I’m only several hundred pounds over stock.

And to reallifedog’s point, I do have to use a block of wood or eventually get a jack extension post like Pro Eagle sells since this only has a max height of about 14”

Do you have your spare tire mounted by those two bolts and with track nuts in the rail? You have a ratchet strap holding it as well. Do you think the bolts would hold it alone? Currently I either leave my spare laying flat or I have it strapped from side to side sitting upright

 

You got it! It’s just some bed rail t-nuts and I think 3/8” bolts and the length will depend on your tires size/offset. Someone else on here did it this way and said it’s been solid for them. I think just the bolts would be fine for daily driving but the minute you hit any trails or dirt it would start flexing more than I’d be comfortable with so I added the ratchet strap too

 

Replaced hubs and front wheel bearing assembly on both sides with SKF units. Realized when I was getting it back together that my torque wrench didn’t have a high enough range luckily I was able to find a decent one in town. Was going to wait until new RCV axels come in but the left side bearing had other plans. When the axels arrive I’ll be doing the ECGS bushing swap the existing needle bearing is certainly on its way out.

was planning to swap brake lines out when I change the brake fluid, but even with the flare nut wrench it just rounded off the first flare nut. I’ll change the fluid, but the lines will be done later when I see if I have to do a master cylinder as well.
