    Still doesn't matter.
When you get your keys you get the cut number. and even if the original owner lost that cut number they can check it. Its just them doing a half assed cheap job.

And I'm sure that you're a good guy who's actually doing what you say you are but hey, this is the internet.

All those pedo's on "to catch a predator" swore they weren't creeps when they thought they were talking to 12 year old boys/girls and look how that turned out.

And besides, do you really want that kind of info publicly available so that a "bad guy" could google "how to open Tacoma tonneau without key" and find out how to do it?

I'm sure "bad guys" can already do this, but I get where you're coming from

The coat hanger trick has been around for years and works on most tonneaus with a pull-cord latch. It's the price you pay for one-handed opening convenience.

My '16 uses a different key for the tailgate and doors. Did that change for 2017? I finally put in a Pop & Lock.

Without getting all pious, the other reason you may need to open a tonneau cover is my case - a lady backed into my truck, damaging the tailgate latch, and now I'm hoping a coathanger will work. We're traveling and all my clothes and stuff is stuck in the back.

    Dang!
