So my wife and I pick up my elderly mother from her retirement community for lunch last Sunday, and she gets in the back seat and puts her purse in the middle section of the back seat next to her. She fastens her seatbelt and we drive away, but the truck decides that her purse is a person that hasn't buckled their seatbelt, and starts beeping like crazy, getting increasingly louder. She moves her purse to her lap, but the seat belt warning doesn't stop. Finally I stop and buckle the middle seat belt to shut it up.

I find this really, really annoying. What is the deal with Toyota and the insane warnings in regards to anything with the backseats on these trucks - I used to get the extra beeps when locking the truck if I put my laptop back there and retrieved it (figured out how to turn that off in the settings), but this seat belt thing doesn't appear to be an option to toggle off in any menu I've found yet. Dear Toyota, it was a purse - granted, maybe a heavy one carried around by elderly ladies, but still a purse that set off a screaming seat belt alarm. The back seat electronic nanny needs to go - completely - I want to rid the truck of any warnings with the backseat. Its an almost useless back seat anyway; my wife has to slide her passenger seat up a couple of notches so there is any legroom for the back seat passenger anyway (my mom is 5' 1" so she's on the smaller side to start with). No one is going to get forgotten back there since no one can really fit back there comfortably anyway.

Would a Carrista be able to turn that off? If so, I may have to look to get one of those if it doesn't void any warranty.

Seems like a malfunctioning pressure sensor. Can you replicate it reliably? If, so a trip to the dealer might be worth it.

I know it can be disabled via GTS+. Assume carista can do the same, but never used it.

Haha, she's a frail 5' 1" 78 year old so while it errs on the heavier side, its not even remotely heavy enough for the seat to mistake it for a person...

I always toss my laptop bag on the seat behind the driver, and it doesn't register as a person - I'll try putting it on the middle seat also to see if it does the same thing. If I can replicate it, I have an appointment to get the truck's first oil change next week (3k miles) so I'll have the dealer look at it then.

Ditto on the Carista; I bought and used it to turn all my alarms off except driver.
