    drive the truck around for a year before you modify anything.

    learn the truck in its current form and have some patience. There are TONS OF OPTIONS for tacoma parts. Many, many, many of the options are overpriced, don't be in a rush to buy anything. the stock truck is very capable.

    TIRES, TIRES, TIRES IN STOCK SIZE or one size up. Get the right tires that suit your needs. This will be the most capability for your dollar. And "offbrand" tires are just fine .I don't even buy from the big brands anymore.
