I have a 97 Tacoma been thinking about selling it for awhile. I bought it brand new in 97 and it has got me out of some bad snow storms and other crazy weather but i drive it less and less every year. Mostly because it is small and has no room in the cab as it's a standard cab plus it's a manual try driving that in bumper to bumper traffic it sucks! I did it for many years.

About 2 years ago i bough a V8 Tundra and it rides so much better lots of room big 6 1/2 bed, i don't use a truck everyday so no mater what i have not a lot of miles get put on it and it seems to never snow anymore.

I keep basic insurance on the Tacoma cost me about $140 a year plus tags and it only has 130,000 miles on it.

you can also take it to carmax for a free estimate-- they'll only give trade-in value, but can be helpful to quickly offload vehicles you never want to see ever again...

otherwise, log on to facebook marketplace, locate similar vehicles, and save them to see if they sell or not. regardless of what they officially sell at, it will give you a better idea of the local market demand and rough pricing.

$5k honestly sounds very low. as long as the frame is in good condition and not rotted out, it's likely worth around $10-15k.

Carmax will take something that old? Not sure what they would do with it, I've never seen anything real old on there lot.

It does have rust on the frame i don't think it is to bad.

carmax will buy everything. they sell anything they don't want at auction, generally anything more than 5 years old. the negative is that they need to turn a profit at auction on it, so they tend to give the least of any other option.

my last vehicle i sold to them, i wasn't comfortable selling privately due to a number of issues it had, and was in a bad financial situation that required the funds relatively fast(during the 2009 recession).. it worked out for me due to their lax inspection process not finding some of the issues-- i likely couldn't have privately sold that car for half of what they gave me, and then would've still had to deal with the next owner myself, where they served as a 'title wash' for me--and for that, i was willing to compromise for the lower-than-average sale price for the faster pace.

those pictures look great really. i stand by my non-location-oriented, and very rough price assessment of around $10k.

your location might differ on price, but reference this more recent thread-- this guy was looking at vehicles with almost twice the mileage, and double the listing price, with far worse frames.

10K seems like a lot for a old truck but hey i would defiantly take 10k, i can't find anything on fb marketplace that is similar locally, it is the V6 model.
