As the title implies, I have a strange grinding binding noise when taking off hard on pavement in first gear just for a split second and then it goes away.

I can take off normally and it doesnt happen, never happens in any other gear (assuming its related to the torque of a first gear takeoff).

I installed the Bilstein lift with Dakars a few months ago along with the driveshaft shim kit and front pumpkin bushing replacement (that solved my first gear vibration when taking off).

Truck runs great everywhere. no issues, no vibrations, nothing....I just stumbled into this noise during a hard take off yesterday and now it has me stumped...

I may mount a gopro underneath and try to look at things during takoff and try to pinpoint.

    anyone else experienced it?

How are the motor mounts ? 2005 was known for your mounts to break and it also makes sense if you hear noises under heavy accel with the engine and drivetrain twisting .
I would get under the truck with a large pry bar and pry around all the mounts .

I’ll check but Id be very surprised if that’s it.

it sounds more like when teeth slip off of a spline (even though that can’t be what it is)

motormounts are more like a single clunk or thud..

I'm having this same exact issue. At this point I've ruled out motor mounts, trans mount, U-joints, carrier bearing, U-bolts, heat shields, and xfer case. I just made a post about this, but figured I'd bump this as well. Shop has told me they suspect input shaft bearing on the transmission. Given everything I've tried so far, I'm inclined to believe it. However, I don't get the noise when I start in reverse. Trans fluid itself is perfectly clean, no signs of a bad synchro. Totally stumped, trying to figure out what to do about it...

Sorry to bump this old thread but I've been having this issue for a bit too. Any updates on a resolution?
