i'm here specifically to counter this statement.

my "$40,000" brz was purchased straight off the showroom. i bought it with scratches in the windshield, and a whoop in the passenger pillar--likely showroom damage. any other brz with the trim and color i wanted at the time was 3+ states away with dealers playing markup games. still happy with it, and it's condition, which is not perfect, but also far from junker status as well. most of it is damage only i know about.

my tacoma, i dented the tailgate the 2nd week i had it. beat most of it out with a 1/2" drive extension and a hammer. my vehicles are to be used, not stored as future classics.

inflation exists, and the reality is that $30k-60k is the low end of the market anymore. playing in the low-market sand box means there's going to be a few kitty turds from time to time. if you don't like it, there's gmc denali...

so there you go, i'm the One. Fucking. Person. that not only 'overpaid' for a $32k msrp vehicle, but also accepted far more 'damage' as par for the course of not buying a lexus or rolls royce.

Mine is literally missing paint in many areas... Like you can see the white primer coming through. Came that way from the factory, luckily in places where you don't normally stare at for long periods of time, but vastly different than the pre 2022ish I had before. I think it was cost cutting.

Another fun cost cutting - 2020 has full leather seat covers for the front and 2023 has fabric on the bottom seat cushion that touches the console.

I'm not purposely abusive but just my hauling stuff for trail work, my business and redeveloping a property means scuffs, scratches and nearing 1.5 months of ownership a bruise. Not like some YouTube person being abusive and more like a senior citizen who's not lost a sense of adventure or slowed down.

The long stretch of time leading to my purchase and considering other vehicles found those sorts of minor and small paint imperfections across new and used vehicles from at least 5 manufacturers. Preparing our 2015 Toyota for sale or trade was a reminder of it being imperfect too. Our company fleet has had totally basic through luxury exec vehicles where you see imperfection is everywhere.

At 1/2 my age there was a short time I was into a detailed perfect looking car and different about where I wanted perfection. My advice to everyone not a senior citizen is live like everything you love can be gone in an instant, but don't have our family's experience of losing someone in an instant.

Aslong as consumers keep accepting shitty products we will keep getting shitter products in the future. If there is no push back from the consumer then we will get more of the same.

Yes, these are trucks but saying "it's a truck so a fucked up paint job from the factory is fine" is foolish. The Pro is suppose to be the top tier of the Tacoma line, fucked up paint jobs are not the mark of a top tier product.

That much salt, or any other de-ice crap, I would more concerned on frame, and undercarriege, getting all rusted. Maybe OPs undercarriege all “fawked,” rusted, is probraly the cause of squeak, front struts going out.
The dealer would send Tacoma to a body shop, to take care paint blister.

You're not wrong, but that's on thicker structural stuff that doesn't get seen vs a thin cosmetic panel that's supposed to be protected by paint. And a lot of people spray the underside to prevent rust, but spraying the outside of the body panels isn't common.

Never said spray rust proof on outside panels, like I said body and paint shop can “touch up,” paint blisters. Get plenty people get OCD on every little thing on their 4x4, that never goes off road. Only “highway princess!” Only pretty expensive!

My 2019 Pro is definitely from Texas. just seem to recall that they moved all Gen 3 production to Mexico in 2021, 2022, or 2023...?

    Yeah.
My 2018 as well. Some models were made in Mexico, some in Texas until they needed to retool Texas. Not sure when they moved all production to Mexico. Either way, I don't think it makes a difference or is the root cause of OP's (and others) paint issues.

For the people who are playing it off as it's a truck and therefore should be acceptable, I don't understand. With your mindset, since it's a truck, why would people run rock sliders when they are overlanding? Is it to look pretty, or is it to protect their paint? As others have mentioned, you can do truck things while maintaining your paint. My concern has nothing to do with cosmetics but the fact that perforated paint will ultimately rust. When you live in the rust belt like myself, that means disappearing rockers within a few years' time. I didn't come here for approval, but more to see if others are experiencing the same issue. Only two people have responded with confirmation of my findings, however the three 2023's that I have ran into since I posted this have all had it. I'm looking for leverage for when I ultimately contact Toyota Corporate as this is a major issue.

I went out and carefully checked mine (celestial silver, I think it is) and it's perfect as near as I can tell.

You accept a new truck that is on you and I'm sure the dealer applauds you. I would never accept any new vehicle with any type of damage no matter how small. It is a NEW vehicle, and should be in new condition.

the way you word this argument leads me to believe you knew about this damage before agreeing to purchase, either through inspection or it was disclosed to you. If that is the case, it's not a like comparison, unless OP's buying adventure played out the same way (no other available models in the area at a reasonably similar price/condition, and he was made aware of the damage at time of purchase). Similarly, damaging your own vehicle because of things you do yourself is not relevant at all.

whether $30-60k is entry level or not is neither here nor there. A painted vehicle should come properly painted.

It's perfectly fine that you chose to overpay, and accept more blemishes/damage, simply because it's the car you wanted. That's your money, and your choice. It's a bit different when you are purchase a product that does not match the advertised expectations, especially when it can exacerbate or accelerate a common and significant issue.

I don't know. My buddy bought a 2022 F150 new.....total bomb!! Left him stranded 2x already. I do alot of camping and hear numerous late model GM truck horror stories. My 2022 TRDOR has been terrific. I could nit pick a few small issues I have with the Tacoma but if you had me choose a truck to trust on a long long trip I'd take my Tacoma over the rest. Not the most comfortable but I'm pretty sure I'd get there and back.

Mine has the same “bubbling” on lower panels. I think it’s a normal design characteristic of the truck. Shocks squeak too a little when going over speed bumps.
It’s an old school pickup truck. It’s noisy and to be honest… unrefined. That’s part of the reason I love it. It's as well made and more reliable as anything out there right now. Take care of it, keep your fluids fresh and enjoy it.
