Went to see what Toyota would give me on trade and offered me $8K for my 2009. I feel it’s worth more but correct if I am wrong. SR5 4x4 164,000 miles

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
I sold my 2007 AC with 300k for 14500. It was pretty dang clean, with lots of stuff that doesn't add value like rock sliders....

That's what you have to look at. For a lot of buyers rocksliders or after market bumpers are actually a turn off. If you have any of the old stuff, return the truck as close to stock as you can. Sell the bonus stuff separately.

Edit: mine was a base sport. So your SR5 should be close to the same value.

That's a pretty extreme low ball offer. They'll turn around and list it for 25k. Take the accessories off and sell separately, sell the truck private market. Probably 18k or so.

We can all speculate, but do a quick search for tacomas selling in your area with similar condition/mileage and you'll know for sure. If anyone expects a dealership to buy their vehicle for what its actually worth, they're very out of touch with reality. Dealers have to turn around a resell it for more to make money, not to mention the money it costs them to have it taking up space on their lot. That being said, of course its a low-ball offer. At the same time, don't fall prey for their trick of giving you much more than that for trade in; they just tack that onto your new vehicle purchase. If you want what its worth, sell it privately, and be willing to wait. If you want whats fair and to sell it quick, list it $1-2k less than what similar trucks are going for in your area. If you want it gone/want something else now, expect a dealer to give you 1/2-2/3 of that "fair" price. Its just how the world works.

If anything, I'd like to sell with the original wheels and keep my methods for the new one. Other than that, and the bumper, that's all I've really done to it.

Trade-in market definitely started slipping. I had a AutoNation offer on my 2013 TRD OR DCSB with 70K miles for $22K in May, that tumbled to $19400 in June. Dealer offered $22K in June, so I took it. Looking at the used market pricing, it didn't seem to drop as much. Try the usual Carmax, Carvana and AutoNation online sell offers just to compare.
