Washing the engine?

Everything on modern engines is sealed up, as long as your not using pressure washer or harsh chemicals it will be fine

 

On a couple month old Taco, there isn't (or shouldn't be) any "gunk" in the engine bay. And in the Northern hemisphere, in August, there shouldn't be any salt or brine spray residue. And those things are generally best attacked from underneath, anyway.

You guys got waaay too much time on your hands if you're lifting your hoods and hosing down the engine on a brand new, mass-produced truck. And please don't use the regular Simple Green on aluminum.


This might be the ugliest engine bay I've ever seen. Do us all a favor and keep that hood closed.

I was thinking along those lines. I could barely find time to keep our cars clean on the outsidemuch less under the hood, especially when my kids were little. Now I'm closing in on retirement age and I still dont have *that* kind of time. However, I did have to wipe down my engine when I got it from the dealer. But I assure you cleaning my engine wont be a thing.

If you keep on top of it you'll never even have to put a brush on it. I try to do mine a couple times a year with diluted Super Clean or Purple Power and hosed off with hot water straight from the hot water heater. I clean the engine and flush my hot water heater all at once.

 

This is true if your truck is a pavement princess. If you go off road, the engine bay will be covered in dirt and mud. It's better to rinse out the mud from moving parts (belt, pulleys, alternator) and from the condenser and radiator. I usually stop by a self-serve car wash on the way home from each trail run. I use the wand in the low pressure rinse setting (without pulling the trigger) to avoid damaging wires and blowing through connector seals.
