It’s a clear joke but I’m not under the impression I’m cool anyway.

Wow theres a whole lot in there to unpack.

Considering that you you stated you sat in the truck and didnt drive it. How did you come to the conclusion the motor is "epic fail"?

I've often said that the 3rd gen has better road manners than a Jeep, but only barely. Its still rough, twitchy, and has enough plastic that you don't feel bad about taking it into a field. It's a billy-goat. It will get nowhere fast yet goes anywhere you want (or don't want), and whether dirty, clean, or reeking of stale piss, your opinion of it does not change. You know what it is. That's why I own one.

The 4th gen by most accounts is a much more polite driver. But I personally can't stand the looks of it. That truck is an orthodontist who is wearing pages 3-6 of the LL Bean catalogue. There is a price tag that is visibly hanging on the khaki outdoorsman's vest, a spot of mud looks very out of place on the neatly polished hiking boots. And underneath, its a cookie-cutter vanilla personality that desperately tries to stand out with rugged angular shoulderpads. That's why I don't own one.

Replacing the venerable V6 with a 4 banger turbo just to satisfy the EPA is an epic fail in my book. It’s the concept, not the actual motor

Personally, I think the best looking grill was on a 2g model and the 4g attempts to get that back

I personally liked the handling of the 3rd gens better than my 4th. The rear coil spring suspension they've been touting up is not what is made out to be. Bouncy as a mofo and not near as planted as leaf springs.

Grille or facia because that always-sad face looks old. The grille itself is good though.

All Toyota USA had to do was . . . Unfortunately, they didn't.

The styling thing..does anybody else remember when the 3rd gen came out? The bitching from some about the styling was hilarious....I liked my 2nd gen, I like my 3rd gen more, I'll probably like a 4th gen just fine when/if I get one. Right now my '18 only has about 30k miles, I have no need or desire to change it for something new. Besides, I never buy the first year or two of any new design, learned that lesson a long time ago (thanks GM for the epic crappiness of my 93 Z28).

I remember the crazy bitching when the 2nd Gen came out, they were going nuts saying they borrowed GM Engineers, lol.

    Accurate
Accurate. The 4th gen will eventually grow on me I believe. It definitely catches your eye. And like I stated above, I may very well eventually end up in a 4th gen if something happens to my ‘23! I just wish wish wish they’d have kept the V6. Never been a fan of small motor turbos.

I know...I'm not a fan of how the back seat folds down. The 3rd gen gives a nice flat area if you're using the back seat for storage.

I agree, the 3rd gen is the perfect balance of modern on a truck and not going too far. The new Tacoma is just not doing it for me, I like the look (not love) but the I4 Turbo and pricing is what turns me off. I'm sure there are a lot of guys out there who prefer the 4th gen.

I like the new 4th gen but the rear bumper is ugly as sin as you see too much underbody! It shows to much of the exhaust and frame assembly and not really a fan of the flares either. I have sat in a few and even drove one. I'm 6 ft 245 lbs. The seats don't really conform to my back very well, the sides keep my back from sitting flat. I feel that my Tacoma performs great on 33s and a tune, so I didn't feel too much power difference, but the torque is diffidently there.

Just buy a fourth gen seat and put in your 23. Problem solved for way le$$.

That said I love my 22. My 05 had positives and negatives. But I do really wish I'd kept my 22R manual 86 4x4. NO creature comforts (especially when AC quit) but man what a tuff little truck. 212K original springs and shocks and drove prefectly straight with even wear on the tires. And NO I did not baby it. See my avatar.

They lost me with this generation too busy. I always liked Toyotas because they were basic and functional. I’d rather get the new ranger or canyon over the Tacoma it’s ugly to me especially the rear. The creature comforts and extra power is definitely nice but it’s getting too big. 2nd gen/3rd gen was the right size for a “mid size”. The new tacomas are bigger than older 1/4 trucks. Just get a 1/4 ton truck at this point. I feel like designers at Toyota loved Michael bay and was like just transforma yeah that will sell.

Personally I prefer the styling of the 4G over the 3G. The front end really reminds me of the 2G Tacoma. I'll stick with my 3G because of the drivetrain. I just prefer a naturally aspirated V6 over a turbo I4. Then there is the laughable rear leg room in the 4G. I'm pretty sure my Access Cab has the same amount or more.
