    My 04 doing the same.
    FWIW I think the number posted above was for the left side. I think the right side is 69305-04020.
    Not cheap...

    I think we might be talking about two parts in this thread. The door "latch handle" and the door "latch mechanism", let's call them.

    Changing the door latch handle -- the thing one lifts on the outside -- is indeed pretty easy. Changing the latch mechanism -- the thing that grabs onto the door frame to hold it closed -- is a helluva lot more complicated. I have my 2003's right rear door mostly apart, and I'm starting to believe that the window glass, regulator and its associated runs will indeed need to come off to change the latch mechanism.

    The mechanism has a sort of plastic bushing around the hook that grabs the post on the door frame, and that bushing gets worn out over time, apparently. Mine has worn or otherwise been shaved down to fragments. This lets that hook fall down and prevent the door from latching when it's closed. The hook can usually be lifted with a finger and then the door closed as normal. But that's a pain.

    Has anybody replaced a rear door latch mechanism on their Gen 1 double cab? Fingers crossed someone can chime in with some practical guidance!

    I've changed the LR and LF latch mechanism on my '04 D-Cab. The only difficulty I had was the last link to the lock on LF mechanism. Reviewing the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78yoVyTRUHU&t=930s from the begining) built confidence in me to complete the job.

    Thanks, @umpire3. Do you remember how much you had to take apart to remove the rear latch mechanism? Did the window have to be taken out? Maybe just the window frame mounted inside the door panel?

    (Timmy's video, which is as helpful as always for his work and very useful for the front doors, didn't get into the rear door enough to give me specific guidance and it's not clear how much is the same between the front and rear).

    I mostly followed the two videos (seen in post #19 and #24). No window frame was removed from the rear door. However, the front window guide was removed (see post #24 at the 11:52).

    @4xdog, were you able to replace the door latch without any problems?

    Not replaced yet. Too many other things going on to dig into it. It may be delayed until I complete a move to New Mexico over the summer, but I will update this thread with pix, etc., when I get into it.

    @umpire3. Your post above suggests there are aftermarket sources for the latch but may also been talking about the door clips. Can you clarify please? I am finding second hand latches are almost as much as OEM in So. Cal. Might as well get new unless there is an aftermarket alternative. (I am looking for the rear passenger latch)

    Thank you.

    My rear drivers side door does makes a clicking sound and is difficult to close. I wonder why it’s mostly this side that has the issue?

    So the two door latches referenced in this thread, passenger 69305-04020 and driver 69306-04020, most definitely DO NOT fit either of the rear doors on a 2001 Tacoma quad cab. Maybe I'm a bit stooopid but I read the two pages of threads here several times and a few posts seemed to suggest that these two parts would fit the rear doors - well I ordered them and after going through the effort to remove one of the latch assemblies, they most definitely do not fit.

    A little late now I'm sure, but...

    @augoose - Does your 2001 Tacoma have power locks? It looks like gen 1 Tacoma uses different units for powered vs. non-powered.
    Right Rear according to what I'm finding.

    -Powered -> 69305-04020
    -Non-powered ->69330-04010

    Left Rear
    -Powered -> 69306-04020
    -Non-powered ->69340-04010

    I do have powered locks, maybe that explains it. Thanks for posting the part numbers, I'll take a closer look!
