That seems to be what I got out of the conversation with dealership. Toyota will send someone to take a look next week. I can live with no vehicle for a bit because I'm retired with no special place to be anytime but there will definitely be a limit to my patience.

Next closest Toyota dealership is 2+ hours away but believe me I do not trust this place here. I don't have much of a choice. I was shocked when they didnt offer me a loaner. 2nd new car from them in 2 years and this being 2 weeks old.

I agree but with major failure like this they have to play by the rules to a T

I'm sure I'm in for a wild ride to the outcome of this all. I've owned 2 FJ's, 2 Tundra's, 1 Tacoma and 4 4runners and have never had an issue. Even my old rusted out Corolla ran forever. I was so skeptical about jumping to this new gen and should have followed my gut. The used late model 23's and 22's had high milage and were within pennies of the price of brand new. We will see

I checked lemon laws here in Utah and it has to be in service for 30 days or more for the same issue within the warranty period and they do not have to be consecutive. I do not want THIS truck back.

The "Transportation Assistance Policy"..............is that part of the standard warranty or is this an extended warranty perk?

Ignore the “no big deal” comments. It is a big deal, if it happens to you. Seriously, sometimes the the hand-wringing around here can sound like we’re on a Chevy S-10 owners site. You’ve owned a boatload of Toyotas, and know better.

Keep your cool, but make sure they do everything reasonable to make you whole. And if you’re apprehensive about driving a brand new expensive truck with a dealer-installed motor, well, press that issue too.

    Sorry, and good luck.

Start the clock now once it gets past 30 days I would definitely ask for a buyback and if they won’t budge and buy it back you can lemon law it. I wouldn’t want that thing back new trucks are complicated and some dude that’s making 20 bucks an hour will be under the gun trying to put an engine back in as fast as possible.

This is sound advice. Everything and anything can fail that’s why you get a warranty.
Please keep us posted on the cause of failure. Good luck.
Also, it’s brand new (not three years old) the at least owe you a loaner if that’s your only transportation.

Right now the main thing is to sit back and attempt to get a loaner. It is fairly unlikely that they will get you fixed up in 30 days or less.

Don’t rush the process don’t call the dealer to expedite anything etc. stall as much as you can from your end if you want this thing bought back.

The second the clock ticks over 30 days from the day it arrives at the dealer you’re legally getting reimbursed.

It was my 4Runner long ago but Toyota got involved with what was ultimately a bad bearing from a supplier. The dealer still did not follow instructions so it repeated. It was not fun and counterintuitive to a younger me but keeping a good attitude made all the difference for Toyota wanting to help and with the dealer. Hopefully an important help for you is the proper repair of the transmission and clutch became a reliable vehicle for my many years and for the next owner.

Recently my wife's German car had problems where the manufacturer was involved and that same hard to do keeping cool made all the difference for getting it resolved but I did have a very inconvenient could not drive it 60 mi from home and all at midnight.

You're likely way too soon to engage the lemon law. You have to do it all right for that too.

Best wishes for short-term and the final results! keep receipts, take pics, document conversations. From my day job so full of problem resolution keep my trick in mind I do even if I don't feel that way inside. I force a "How can I help you solve this?" mode even if the real me would like to curse. It helps my sanity as much as it solves problems better.

    Good luck!

Keeping my cool will be the toughest part. I am most definitely not only apprehensive about driving with a dealer installed motor. When it come to resale I know I'm fkt. There will be a record of this and most buyers will run from that and the dealership will praise the work and to have trust in the truck until time to trade in and they will give me squat for it.

Thank you. I'm going to have to just be cool and wait for the process to play out. Not easy but is a must.

My initial reaction is to rush it but after I calmed down I thought same thing. Let the 30 days pass and fight for a replacement! Thanks for the input..appreciated.

Engine failure in a not so cheap truck that is only 2 weeks old??? Yeah, I would have raised a fuss not getting a loaner. Especially on a holiday weekend. I am getting ready to take a bunch of fall trips, would be piiiiissssed if a brand new truck did that me.

All these major failures right off the bat sure isn’t confidence inspiring. Going to sit back and let other people be the beta testers before Toyota gets anymore of my money. Nearly 40 years of owning them, doesn’t look they are the company they used to be.

Be sure and write detailed notes of everything that has happened so far, names, dates, time, etc. If you have to lawyer up, it will be very helpful. I would also refrain from providing commentary here and on social media.
