I have a new 23 TRD Tacoma I am new to Tacoma. I purchased a matching wheel to install on my spare tire so I can do a 5 tire rotation. I did not think about the pressure sensor. Is there any way to have 5 Tire Pressure sensors on a Gen 3 Tacoma

I’ve got the SR so don’t have as much tech (just a low pressure indicator).

I just do a 5 tire rotation and know one doesn’t have a TPMS.

My wife’s 21 Limited 4R with a similar screen actually has 5 spots for TPMS and shows the pressure for even the full size spare. It’s full time 4wd so came with full size spare. I wonder if you can activate the 5th spot on yours through carista or one of the apps.

Only 4 TPMS sensors are supported...

You've already bought the wheel, but for the most part 5 tire rotations aren't worth the effort on most vehicles, especially with TPMS. On a Jeep Wrangler where the spare is visible, easy to keep clean, and easy to access when rotating a matching wheel makes more sense, but the spare under a truck is going to be filthy and a PITA if you ever need to mount it.

Age is as important as miles. You'll be able to go a little longer before you need to buy new tires, but most tires are close to their age limit when the tread is gone anyway. And then you have to buy 5 tires so you don't really save any money. Even with the matching wheel I'd run the 4 on the ground. When they wear out I'd buy 4 more and move the best of those to my spare.

They used to put a sensor in the spare, my 2007 has one but I think 2008 was the last year.

If you wanted to do that, you’d have to swap in a 4runner TPMS computer and it “might” work.

honestly I’ve never tried it but you might be able to add a 5th if you tried programing a 5th as a 5th gen 4runner on the scanner. But big maybe.

that being said, 5th wheel rotates largely aren’t a big benefit to do.

No simple way without programming sensors everytime.

It's a lot of steps to monitor 1 tire. I'd suggest just leaving one without a sensor.

Return the 5th tire, and no need for all that fiasco....

Worse case scenario, you do use your spare. It'll do what it was meant to do.

Nothing wrong with a matching spare and rearward cross/5 tire rotation, but you do have to reprogram the sensors each time, adding a new and removing an old sensor ID. You can use techstream, a dedicated tpms tool, or pay a $10 Carista subscription every rotation.
Get 2 extra rotations out of your tires over their life and you get to spend a little more time working on your truck every 5k. At 55k traveled, each tire will have 45k on it and your spare lifter is sure to work in case of an emergency

I tend to agree. I am also looking at a 5 tire rotation. It's true that when the 5 tires wear out, they will all be equally old. But that will also be true if I never put the spare on the ground.
