You’re not in a rush. If anything the longer they take the more likely you’re to get all your money back.

Ask the dealer for a like for like replacement if they are decent they will help you with that deal… if not, Toyota not the dealer will be forced to buy it back in 30 days. The dealer is not incentivized to help you at all. They have no skin in the game.

I would contact Toyota to see if they can arrange you with transportation … I believe there is roadside assistance and trip interruption coverage that’s standard

They likely know this is going to take 30+ days and don’t want a month or more of mileage on a loaner.

I'm sure after the initial anger subsides I'll come to my senses and let the process work.

That’s not how this works. If the truck is repaired under the terms of the warranty and within the timelines of your state’s lemon laws you can’t just decide to not take it back and demand a new one. That’s not a fight you will win even with a lawyer.

Assembled in Mexico? My assembled in Texas ‘14 with 190k miles, only one repair - i replaced the alternator because of a noisy bearing before failure.

Never buy the first model year…

i’m sure toyo will take care of you…. If financed, i would call bank - they will help make things move quicker, just make it clear - no more payments for something that is no longer in your possession and non-usable.

FYI - this is the last year for a 4.0L 4-runner made in japan….

The bank is cool with that, they will happily repossess a vehicle for non-payment. They don’t care at all that it’s in for repair, that’s not their problem. You signed an agreement to borrow money on a set repayment schedule, there isn’t a clause saying you don’t have to just because the truck broke.

Now Toyota making the payments for you and providing a loaner is an entirely different story and a reasonable, though unlikely, solution.

I wouldn't say the entire truck is a lemon, because of a complete engine failure at 200 miles. Give Toyota and the dealer a chance. They want to know the root cause of the engine failure. I want to know too.

The only issue I'm genuinely concerned about is the transmission and only because it will take forever to get the part, since the replacement is actually easy and non invasive to the truck. Other occurrences such as this one are kind of freak accidents. I'm also looking forward to hearing what happened to cause it. I'm betting something wasn't connected properly and it pissed all the oil out which resulted in the actual failure. Silverado's were popping oil cooler lines just a few years back 2019-2020? and unless you got the truck shut down quick, your engine was sol.

Something else too… if this was indeed a loose fitting or something along those lines then I don’t see how it wasn’t seen during the PDI. Toyota pays their dealerships to have each vehicle thoroughly inspected as a final check of quality control.

I would rather lunch the entire engine then have the dealer do the least hard and cheapest repair on the one that just puked it's lifeblood all over the ground. A completely new motor is probably the best repair for a early engine failure.

And yes, call Toyota, be polite [ALWAYS BE POLITE] but firm and let them know the issue, the lack of care the dealer provided [it does get logged], and that you NEED a courtesy vehicle in the meantime. As you are a senior, it could be health related, medical, or what have you but yes, that early on they should have given you a loaner. I'm betting the stsff/family members of the dealer/owner are probably driving them around as personal transportation instead of using them as loaners.

Have you asked how much the dealer would give you on trade? I'd drive over to Carmax the moment I got the truck back fir an appraisal.

I think Ford is offering no payments for 90 days on F-150 if you need a truck to drive now, you'll loose money as they don't hold value.

If they want your business they should have given a loaner, especially with a major engine failure on a brandy new truck. The dealership here was taking too long on a repair for one of my trucks, gave us a loner. We also have 3 dealers all within 30 minutes of each other, so if one is being an ass they know we’ll simply go to another. With Toyota having to recall 100K Tundras, some Lexus, and now Tacoma transmissions and maybe engines looking to be heading that way, competition has gotten quite stiff, with Toyota’s reliability reputation on the line, the dealers might want to bend over backwards to keep customers from going to another brand entirely.
