He passed several years ago, but he was a rock hound and we went ruby, garnet, diamond mining as kids in various states. He always personally carried two coffee cans of rocks back from just about every trip. Even from Africa. We all inherited parts of his collection (I have way more that I could ever know what to do with). It’s definitely fun on occasion. He would make salt buckets for the kids to search and cut things open so they could see inside. We (me) never made it to the PNW, so it’s something I wasn’t familiar with. I do remember the rock shows would have tables of faceted stones where you could select one and buy it based on carat weight. My wife wears a ring with a Rhondolite Garnet and diamonds from my early childhood first finds.

 

I think like 17 of em pile into one of those tiny clown cars and ride to work together. Except they leave the 'work' part back at the clown house.
